Worked out that we have lost 6 points so far this season through not seeing games out to the end, this would make the league table look very different!
I would accept that unhappiness with the style and entertainment would still be growing, but the verocity may not had we kept hold of those points
By my reckoning we dropped:
2points away at Reading with a stupid last min penalty 1point away at Chelsea after a heroic effort, marking the strikers out of the game but forgetting about Cashley Hole (85mins) 1point away at Arsenal - stoic defensive display but deserving of a point - lucky deflection off a free kick (80mins) 1point away at Newcastle - deep into injury time poor from Wilson, a game we were winning! (93mins) 1point at home to Villa - worked hard to get back into the game, scored on 80 - only to concede a wonder goal and a breakaway (88 & 92mins)
6 points....even half of those would leave us a damn site more comfortable now...that draw at Reading...grrr!!!
Dont know whats happened to us defensively

Dont know whats happened to us defensively I think we've been sussed all over the park robo . . . . . and you can only get away playing without full backs for so long.

It wasn't so long ago that we had that knack of winning games with late goals sometimes deep into added time.

Thats the big change for me - the style has always been not too exciting but was effective

You could say we dropped 2 points at home to Southampton after Nzonzi got sent off, and also could of beaten Wigan if it wasn't for Al habsi's brilliant save off a charlie Adam freekick in the last 10 minutes

Correct Oggy (Fulham springs to mind)
If I'm not mistaken early goals in opening seconds of the second half too! (Man Utd)
We never seem to score early goals!

Don't think the Villa game is a good example, we didn't deserve anything from that game.

We never seem to score goals, let alone early goals! My first impression was that there are multiple reasons as to why we're dropping points - scoring goals included. But then I realised that this thread refers to 'difference', of which in terms of scoring goals, there is none. We've lacked in that area since promotion.

How many other teams can point to the same bad luck? We're where we deserve to be.

Can only think of Southampton this season where we genuinely got out of jail with a late goal, and even then it was a game we should have won anyway bar some inexplicable defending.
I thought the Villa game would be the turning point when we scored, we would either go on and get a grubby win (as we usually do against villa!) then pick up a few more points, but it didnt work out that way
We have never scored many goals, but have always managed to eek out those narrow wins or points away from home, which is dull to watch I agree but points none the less. This season (second part) the defence has looked ineffective, and those moments of concentration at the end of games might eventually cost us.
40 points (+6 from now) is enough right now 34 points with massive games against teams around us is clenched buttocks time!
Nothing to do with luck Mike, wasnt insinuating that, its poor defending!

Dont know whats happened to us defensively At Reading we were robbed. I forget the name of the ref but he essentially allowed Reading an advantage, then when they missed pulled it back for a penalty. It was a quite disgraceful decision. Chelsea was a wonderful performance, but ultimately they ground out a win like good teams do. We can't complain that they were able to eventually break our lines. The Arsenal game for me was less of a good point. Great defending as you say but we created nothing. Newcastle, as you say, Wilson let us down. Villa we were dreadful, utterly dreadful throughout the game. There are a few more I can think of: Away at Norwich we conceded a goal from a free kick given for a blatant dive. Up to that point we'd been comfortable. At home to Man City we conceded off a ball into the box, the one thing we're supposed to be great at defending. Away at West Ham we took an early lead from that fantastic Walters goal then were let down by some shonky defending. Southampton at home, we were utterly abysmal, but the fact is how could we perform in such a poor fashion against such a struggling team (at the time) great goal from Jerome though. West Brom at home, should have won, didn't take our chances, lucky they didn't take theirs.

Lack of goals is usually covered up at Stoke with great defending
Alas since January 1st we have had neither, hence the position we find ourselves in.
That said I still think we will be OK (although with each game that becomes less likely!), a double header of massive ones incoming! We are capable of beating both QPR and Norwich and then we can all relax. ish.
