Considering we're none-the-wiser about what the three-year plan was, two years after it ended, we've got bugger-all chance of working out what any future plan could possibly be, particularly bearing in mind the Chief Exec is leaving, the manager should be leaving (prays), and there are rumours on this board that Coates could be selling up. My guess is that panic is going on, with no plan whatsoever. It might not be an educated guess, but it's the best I can do.

I prefer to naively believe there is some grand plan in place that will instantly secure our return to the Promised Land.
On a side note... do you remember at the end of the 'Three Year Plan'... Pulis kept saying 'We have a three year plan blah blah...' and implying there was to be a new 'plan' at the end of it but it was a bit of 'secret' and he would reveal in good time what the next 'stage' was. He never did actually tell us. In hindsight it appears that the next stage was simply signing slightly better players and trying to ram them into the system. If only he had come up with a five year plan to start with.

In the beginning was the Plan. And then came the Assumptions. And the Assumptions were without form. And the Plan was without substance. And darkness was upon the face of the Workers. And they spoke amongst themselves, saying: "It is a crock of shit, and it stinketh." And the workers went unto their Supervisors and said: "It is a pail of dung, and none may abide the odor thereof." And the Supervisors went unto their Managers, saying: "It is a container of excrement, and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it." And the Managers went unto their Directors, saying: "It is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its strength." And the Directors spoke amongst themselves, saying to one another: "It contains that which aids plant growth, and it is very powerful." And the Vice Presidents went unto the President, saying unto him: "This new plan will actively promote the growth and vigor of the company, with powerful effects." And the President looked upon the Plan, and saw that it was good. And the Plan became Policy.
This is how Shit happens.

Spot on Friend. I've worked with a number of companies who fit the plan organisational structure very well. However, I'm not sure that the good Peter Coates is as gullible as your President. Well, I hope he isn't.

The truth is,he only has one plan, and that involves hoofball, which only works with certain players. He is completely at a loss as to what to do now. That is IMHO.

When Pulis bought Shea didn't somebody maybe even Pulis himself come out with something along the lines of "Brek is for next season"?

Here's the plan.
1. Score some goals 2. Try not to concede any goals. 3. Get promoted.

Now though, now he's come to Stoke, he won't. He will have all of his footballing qualities beaten out of him by what can only be described as a DINOSAUR!

Soory, but when I read the thread title, I assumed that Stoke were actually PLANNING for relegation - which, of course, they are not?

If it's anything like the pushing on plan we're doomed.
Let's face it, this shower of shit couldn't plan a piss up in a brewery.

Does anyone honestly believe there was a three year plan? If so, what do you think it looked like? A lever arch file, perhaps, with "three year plan" embossed on the front, that sits on a shelf in TP's office.
If there were such a plan, then surely it would have had an issues log and a risk register. One of the risks must surely have been "Go into terminal decline after Boxing Day". In that event, there must have been a column for remedial action. That remedial action could have involved a number of things - but none of them (surely) was "carry on doing exactly what you've been doing for the last three months (and longer)".
If we go down to League Div Two, as I expect we will, the plan will be as someone above has suggested: "score more goals than you concede/win games/get promoted".

Even the likes of Kightly, Cameron, Shea, Whelan and Jerome would probably want to leave though. But if we can keep Cameron, Shea and Jerome in particular that'd be a start.

By the way when I say 'plan' I'm talking more in terms of the overall strategic direction of the club.
Coates obviously had an idea what he wanted when he came back, how much money it would take and how long he was prepared to wait
1) Get in the Prem in three years
2) Three years to establish ourselves as a Prem outfit
3) Make the club self-sustaining by building the academy and so on...
This is now all in jeopardy and our Chief Exec comes out and says we have a contingency plan... not about tactics or stuff like that but to do with the strategic direction of the club.
So what is it and how much money does it involve?

Regardless of whether or not it was bollocks what do you think the club's plan would be if we go down Bayern?
Nothing to do with tactics... I mean is the plan to subsidise a bloated wage bill and provide the necessary financial backing for an instant return to Premier League riches or will they sell up and run for the hills?
