Is 'round pegs in square holes' any better?

We started today with five out of ten outfield players out of position including all the wide positions.
Cameron right back, Shotton right mid, Wilkinson left back, Walters left midfield, Adam, centre forward.
Seriously, what chance do we have?

Go on then, I'll ask the question. Did we have a potential starting XI today that wouldn't have involved more than one or two, absolutely tops, playing in their favoured positions?

To some extent Pulis has received too much criticism for this in the past. All managers tend to do this. Alex Ferguson today... one of the greatest managers of all time with a huge squad at his disposal and today he fields a centre back at right back and a striker in central midfield.
The problem is Pulis takes it to extremes. He always has done even when it is obviously undermining results and performances. Shotton on the wing today? Why....? How many years without signing a full-back? Why? Trying to convert Charlie Adam into a second stiker... why? Playing Geoff Cameron in central attacking midfield... why? And Michael Owen in midfield...
This is all his chickens coming home to roost unfortunately.

After £100m spent, you would think we had every position covered.

If you change the formation... 5-3-2. The only player playing out of position would have been the LB. This formation would also be better for Adam and makes sense given our lack of wingers at the moment.

Thanks Philm87, I just wanted to check that it was feasible and therefor, sadly adding to my huge pile of "Pulis doesn't know what he's doing or he's too afraid to change" facts.

I think everyone who uses the phrase would love to stop using it.
That would mean TP had started to pick his best 11 players in their best positions instead of persisting with his insane selection policy.

I think, in actual fact, the more accurate saying would be Very large square pegs, very small round holes anyway.
