If we get relegated Coates will be far more to blame than Pulis.
There is massive frustration with the manager. There has been for a long time but now it is of epedemic proportion. As was set out on the back of todays Oatcake the unacceptable statistics over the last 2 seasons are for all to see. We know what Pulis does, playing favourites, playing half a team out of position, keeping quality on the bench or out of the squad, trying to kill a game rather than win a game, spending the whole budget on players he cannot use properly. We know all this and so does Coates.
No one can accuse Pulis of being inconsistent. He does what he does over and over again.
So whilst Pulis has delivered to us exactly the precarious position that is deserving of the football he plays, Coates has displayed a complete lack of vision in expecting it to turn out any different than it is turning out. To compound this even when it became obvious that we were nosediving back to the championship he changed nothing, and he still looks like changing nothing now.
Maybe his friendship with Pulis is causing the blind spot? I dont know, but what is clear to see is that Pulis will deliver to us for the next 5 games exactly what he has delivered to us for most of the last 18 months and as a result we will be back to where we started when Pulis came in. Its not Pulis's faullt that he has remained manager throughout this car crash of a season, any more than it is Ryan Shotton's fault he is being exposed as a totally inadequate Premiership winger.
We know what to expect and what we will get from Pulis and any chairman that sits on his hands and does nothing to change the predictable outcome whilst there is still a chance of avoiding the crash at the end of the road is totally responsible for the crash when it happens.
If Coates acts now he will have at least tried to take action to save our Premiership skins, far far later than he should have done but it gives us half a chance of scraping over the line. To take no action will almost certainly condem us to relegation and he can have 100% responsibility for that.

I just can't see him sacking Tone and unfortunately after all he's done for the club, he will face the backlash. This situation could turn very nasty and that would be a massive shame.

Totally agree with you BristolMick. The writing has been on the wall for ages and Coates has done nothing to resolve the problem that has been staring him in the face for ages.

Coates is taking a massive gamble by not having removed the manager some time ago.. This 'blip' has been going since the Liverpool win, I simply find it incredible that he is willing to put a friendship over £100million, and the chance to get a manager in who will take this wonderful club to the next level. I just don't understand.

His most important decision is who is manager and he's failed to see for months it's the wrong guy.
Coates out!

I just don't understand. He sees the friendship being worth more than 100 million and yet people still seem to think he'll be sacked. I don't disagree with you, but my opinion is that Pulis will be at Stoke next season no matter what happens this season.

The blip has been going on even longer than that. Coates has always said he wants to make the club self-sufficient and build the Academy. Pulis has done nothing to support this and has openly disagreed with the strategy in interviews. The fact we have only made £8M in transfer fees in the last five years confirms the Pulis strategy. He buys players noone else wants and noone else will buy. The first mistake Coates made was to give Pulis loads of money to buy players he doesn't have a clue how to use. Token big name and big money buys. The second and biggest mistake was to stick with the manager despite the clear signs that he was never going to change no matter how much money was given to him. He only knows one way to set a team up and he will stick buy it come what may. Pulis has never changed and never will. If you stay still you will be overtaken. Coates should have acted at the end of last season.

If we get relegated the blame will lie at the door of one man.
It is not Peter Coates.

Mr chairman is totally responsible for getting stoke in the prem in the first place! Any calls for Mr Coates would be in very bad taste, and would just sum up the word ungrateful. Some fans just make my fucking skin crawl.

What a stupid fucking thread!
Say what you want about Pulis, it's time for him to go but Coates has given the club the funds to compete in the top flight, in Europe and in a cup final. He's backed his man with his own cash. Without him we'd be absolutely fucked and you all know it. Should we go down, it's Coates' back pocket that will feel this loss more than anything. Him keeping an interest and looking after us is absolutely critical to the future of our club.
The world Charlton is often read on here... Call for Coates' head and watch how far we fall

Call for Coates' head and watch how far we fall No one is calling for Coates head though are they? As you say, its time for Pulis to go. If he doesn't go who's fault will that be? Please read my original post again, but this time read what I have said instead of what you imagine I have said. Coates must stay, but that doesn't take away from the fact he is responsible for Pulis messing the club up because he stuck with him too long! Its the same as fans criticising Shotton, Whelan, Walters or Crouch. They dont pick themselves to play when out of form or in positions they are ill suited for do they? BM
