It's not an ad, it's an injected link. You hit a link on the site (like the next page link) and instead of going to the correct destination, you are diverted to a porn site.

Never had a problem with pop ups on this sight. Again, not pop-ups. The actual links on the site take you to the wrong places. You might click on one of the page numbers or the 'next' button or the top level Oatcake Fanzine link and lo and behold, you are staring at muck guns and spasm chasms on a completely different site; as is anyone else who can see your screen.

I haven't had this prob from the site I have to say - everyone who has, please ALWAYS report it to Admin so we can report it to ProBoards - has it been worse, better, different since the new site format came in??

I use Firefox and Ad blocker. I get this across the top of the page "Please consider supporting this website by disabling your ad-blocker. This website does not use audio ads, popups, or other annoyances. Thank you!"
I allowed ads on the Oatie seeing that but after this there is no way am I disabling adblocker again. I haven't had any redirects all the time Adbloker was live, but equally nothing for the 2 days I turned it off either.

Sal, I have noticed no real difference between this site and the old one. If anything, the problems were less frequent towards to the end of the old site and have returned to being more frequent with the new one

It's strange, clearly it happens to many people so its not an individual problem, but I and many others on this thread have never had this happen once in all the years. My guess would be that perhaps it's infiltrating at the level of your ISP or something. It's a strange one.

I really can't allow pornographic sites to randomly pop up in front of young children or during my lunchtime browsing at work. Whereas copious use of F*** and C*** words seem to be acceptable?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the detailed responses in this thread. The more information we have, the easier these types of problems are to track down. We absolutely prohibit this kind of activity by our advertisers, and we are working with our ad provider to get this tracked down and blocked immediately.
In the mean time, I have removed all advertising from this forum.
Patrick

So all in one go, malvernstokie has given every man (and maybe some women) a get out of jail free card when caught out, and I also don't have that really annoying pro boards ad scrolling down the page with me.
Malvernstokie, the oatcake message board hero.

With reference to removing ads, I hope that this does not hit the income of the site. With that in mind, I would like to point out that it is not the ads that seem to be the problem, but the sites standard links having been hijjacked to send users to rogue sites. My guess would be that it is a software hack on either your core software or one of the sites plug-ins designed to cloak injected links to porn sites, although I imagine you have worked that much out yourselves. As the originator of this thread, I would ask you to let me know what progress you make on this issue via a PM. In the meantime, I will delay my decision to leave the forum and block the URL. Again, thank you for your personal intervention.

For what it's worth, I had a problem on my old phone with the old proboards site. Basically, every now and then, I would load up a thread, the thread would load and it would then immediately redirect. It was usually to a nondescript website with one of those nonsense win an ipod things on it, but every now and then it went to a particularly explicit site. Admin passed it on to proboards and both had a good look for it but found nothing. It may have been the case that I'd picked it up somewhere else and it just happened that most of the pages I opened on my phone were threads on here and so it was just statistically likely that it would only ever happen on here, but I thought it might be worth mentioning while there's a thread on this stuff.
For what it's worth, my new phone is capable of using Firefox, complete with adblock plus, and I haven't had a single problem.

Malvernstokie, you are the hero to the good people of the oatcake. Forever, you shall be remembered as the discoverer of the excuse for visiting porn sites all over the web, in work or in front of the many ball'n'chains. For years, have the men of staffordshire looked for a cover story for their dirty exploits of the world wide web. Enjoy it while you can, guys. Once they fix this issue, your excuse has gone.

It's a shame that this appears to be happening to people. Personally I have never had this problem on the oatcake.. I get it often on streaming sites for TV programmes and footy matches etc.. Where you have to wade through the ads and close them one by one until you can click play. Admin should take a serious look at blocking this stuff out For good. Malvern, hopefully your son doesn't start to mention that there's an extremely high number of local single ladies apparently looking for some fun! Admin get a handle on this please! This. As I think you are a top-poster Malvern, I'm sorry to hear this. I really hope this issue gets fixed. Although I should add that I've never had this kind of problem myself.

Hi guys, Sorry for bumping this old topic up. We've spent days searching for this issue, and have not found any advertisers causing this problem. We received a suggestion from our ad provider, which was if you have been affected by this to clear your cache and cookies. So, please give that a try if you were affected by this problem. We will be putting the ads back on this site soon, so I wanted to give you all a heads up. Please immediately contact me if this problem occurs again. Be sure to give me all the details you can, such as the URL of the page you were directed to, what device you were browsing the forum with, what you did when that happened, etc. You can post at support.proboards.com or the admins of this forum should have my direct contact details. Thank you, Patrick
