We MUST play 2 attacking wide players (in the absence of genuine wingers) in ALL of our remaining 6 fixtures. It's our ONLY source of goals from open play. We've GOT to try to win all our matches, and to do that we HAVE to carry a goal threat. Nobody can tell me that kightly and Walters don't work hard enough out wide, and that they don't offer more in possession than a full back (ie shotton). Lets at least go down trying if that's what going to happen, rather than with a whimper. My worry is that he'll set out for a point. He's apparently said that 6 draws will do.....
It was a mistake to only get one winger in during the summer, and he (kightly) has not been good enough. However, we have what we have from now until the summer. With etherington seemingly unfit, we HAVE to start kightly and Walters wide. I don't mind us playing Adam as a wide left midfielder, but we simply have to play two attacking players out wide.

I thought this was a thread about Jon Parkin

I thought this was a thread about Jon Parkin I'd have titled it "wingers", but as I say, we haven't really got any... People were happy that jones started yday, but if there's no supply, it doesn't matter if its jones or crouch that plays.

You are right son, non of our wingers can do a decent centre

I'd play Kightly wide right. He is a right winger, so he knows his job more than any square peg we try to put there. I'd rather two out of form wingers than two players out of position. If we play only one proper winger, like Etherington, he gets closed down by 2-3 players and gets dispossessed. At least with two wingers their defenders tend to get stretched a bit more. Besides, Kightly seemed to have a lot of passion yesterday, his goal celebration looked like he just the defining penalty in a World Cup final.

You are right son, non of our wingers can do a decent centre We have never scored enough goals from open play under Pulis, but what goals we do score come from wide areas. The rest is set pieces and 2nd ball from set piece and long balls. 1st half yesterday we had an unfit etherington, and an out of position and out of his depth shotton. It's not going to be good enough to keep us up.

That said. Regardless of what happens the rest of the season. Some decent wide players are a MUST in the transfer window.

Even not playing well, or not being quite good enough, genuinely attacking players offer a threat, and give us more in possession. We invited pressure on ourselves yesterday. Until we got 2 wide players on the pitch, we were just waiting for them to score again.

The thing is we don't have any decent wing players or replacements of.... The wingers/winger we have are either woefully lacking in quality or fitness.

Playing them beats playing a sodding full back with zero quality on the ball out wide, and hoping for a 0-0. We need 3pts FAST
