www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21970903It sounds like a publicity stunt to me, I heard some of the chants and the overtones I got was the England fans thought Rio Ferdinand is a cunt-which he is. I didn't hear anything racist, were any racist songs sung? If not they should fine these fuckers for timewasting.

During the game several journos tweeted about the Ferdinand chants but not one said anything racist had been shouted.

Piara Powar is the executive director of the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) organisation and as such is one of those characters who can show you racism in the very air we breathe. Yes there were a few hearty reditions of "f*ck off, Rio Ferdinand" which you could hear as clear as a bell on the ITV coverage when Andy Townsend finally shut up but that had more to do with Rio's decision to pull out of the game because he has some sort of fitness regimen to which he must adhere for his dodgy back and an England game in the World Cup got in the way of it Oh, and rather than pull out altogether he chose instead to commentate on the game for Al Jazeera and at the same time make use of Quatar's excellent Aspire training centre. As such he can't have been entirely surprised when a bit of 'flack' came his way as he sat in the stadium.

Ferdinand has acted like a complete arse and (imho) deserves to be vilified by the supporters.
Having said that, I think they went way too far with the chant.
"Build a bonfire, build a bonfire, Put Rio on the top, Put Anton in the middle, Then burn the f*****g lot."
Best of luck trying to prove that it was racist though, no wonder Piara Powar is describing it as 'very subtle', he's actually undermining Fare when it comes to tackling genuine racism.
If Gary Neville had acted in the same way as Rio has , you could have easily heard the same chant but with Phil taking the place of Anton.
There's nothing to actually see here ... save for Piara Power shooting himself in the foot of course.

Exactly that, there is a ton of stuff to go after, for example an almost total absence of black managers in Europe so why shoot at something as marginal as this.

" the absence of black manageress in Europe" so you are suggesting a club sticks a bloke in charge just because he's black and never mind if he's any good or not? We have a black manager in Premier league and we also only have 5 English managers in the league. Why? Because there are no good English managers at the moment no matter what colour they are!

I was at both games and can categorically say there were NO racist chants that I or anyone else i know heard at all. I heard, he was a c*nt, you know what you are and fuck off rio ferdinand thats it. If these journalists want to talk racism they should report on the behaviour of the fans in podgorica who found it necessary to hurl missiles and spit on englands players, black and white, all the way through the game, before throwing fireworks into the England end and attacking Englis folks with flares outside the ground on the basis of our nationality!! May i suggest these journos fuckin grow up and speak fact not fiction !!!

I really don't get how the bonfire song, can in anyway, be interpreted as racist??? Like already stated on this message, its sung time and time again in all kinds of different situations. Ferdinand is a cunt, without taking anything else into consideration.

I actually think that Rio making himself out to be some sort of moral crusader cheapens the genuine fight against it and the genuine cases that don't even make the papers. He just loves being in the news.

I really don't get how the bonfire song, can in anyway, be interpreted as racist??? Well I would agree that it's not racist at all. However I imagine the argument will go that it harks back to the Southern States of America (Mississipi and Alabama)in the 1960's when the Ku Klux Klan would burn black people on a regular basis. However since I don't suppose the people singing it were waving their MENSA application forms above their heads at the same time I'd be pretty certain they made no such link.

But it's shite though considering that song is sung about anyone and anything. It just so happens that the Ferdinand's are black. This is where those working for the anti racism campaigns/lobbies let themselves down. It's like crying wolf, people will stop listening, which is wrong.

And it does the cause no favours. Someone asked why it might be considered so and I made a best guess at the reason, I'd like to know if anyone can come up with anything different or better.

I was there and there was nothing racist about the chants......they were just honest chants about how he turned his back on his country in a snide way and NOTHING to do about skin colour and the truth has hurt him.
He thinks he is riding a white horse through the mist as the saviour of the kick it out campaign......well this time he is wrong and he should come out and say it has nothing to do with racism only truthful chants
