Just listening to him on Talksport talking about being let go at the end of the season and not sounding very happy at all about it.Bolton fans getting in touch as well saying its a disgrace he's not been awarded a new contract and a testimonial.Thoughts? TP wouldn't would he?

I understand why they're letting him go he's 36 now and he ain't going to be round much longer. I don't blame them for not having a testimonial because he's not really won anything there and I think testimonial matches should only be held for truly great players.
I think they'd be daft not to offer him a coaching role of some sorts.

Surprised they haven't kept him on.
The last time he was on Goals On Sunday he said the club were allowing him to do some coaching with the reserves while he did his coaching badges.

Apparently he's just 5 Days of being entitled to a testimonial. Perhaps we should send him a video of a certain game to cheer him up?

Think thats what has upset him and most Bolton fans mate the fact he's 5 days from a testimonial and also told today on his birthday his services were no longer required.By the sound of him earlier he expected either a reduced terms contract or a place on the coaching set up somewere in the club to be offered to him.

Football is ruthless and testimonials are a load of bollocks and just fill the pockets of very rich people also.
I.ve been in my employment for over 20 years now but theres no sign of me having a fucking deserved testimonial......thats because i wont.
He,ll find other employment within the game

Well its hard to say because I'm not a Bolton fan but from a outsiders view personally I wouldn't consider him a Bolton great. I think a lot of Bolton fans would in all honesty. He's played over 400 matches for them and will always be remembered by them, even if he hasn't achieved loads there. I don't normally agree with a lot of people when they say players should get testimonials, but this is an exception IMO. I suppose only Bolton fans will know whether he deserves one or not.

Think testamonials are a bit of a throwback to the days of the maximum wage tbh! When players who'd been loyal servants could expect a decent pay day on retirement via a testamonial. Its a bit of a far cry from the position today when players ( yep even Bolton players ) are on tens of thousands of pounds weekly! In fact I think its a bit cheeky of Davies to suggest it!

He's played over 400 games for the club. How many appearances are needed before he is classed as a great?

Every single one of Emile Heskey's caps should have been given to Kevin Davies.

If he's not good enough (he isn't) then it's the right thing to do. We should have sodded Mama off last season but sentiment ruled, there's no room for that sort of thing in football imo. Once they pass their sell by date-get rid.

Once they pass their sell by date-get rid. But look what's happened to the overall character of our club since we got rid of Mama, Rory, Higgy, Ric and Salif. I like Ferguson's approach of finding coaching jobs for the good eggs as they retire so they can carry on influencing the younger players and help mould the overall character of the club.

We can't keep them forever and surely it's the manager's job with his 809 personality checks to get that right again? I'd love to see Delap back as a coach but he wants to be playing so we can't do it. The same goes for Higgi and Ric. And God knows what Salif is doing. But Mama coaching? Maybe a smiling coach or the U-9's but anything higher and it'd be pointless.

Suppose we didn't have much choice other than to let them go, when you put it like that, but we've definitely suffered as a result of them not being around. If we could have kept them involved in some way (like Bolton could keep Davies involved in some way) we'd be better off now. I agree on Pulis. Failing to replace them with similar characters has been his downfall, for me.

And we just haven't on the personality front and the playing front. I'd love to see Delap and Higgi in particular coaching here, I think Delap in particular would be excellent but I can see both playing for as long as someone in the football league gives them a chance to. What is Salif doing btw, does anyone know? I'd like to think we could have a direct link with the best talent Senegal has to offer through him and his academy.
