I would have to agree with Stokiejoe and Greenhoff on this thread.
For me two aspects of Greenhoff stand out 1 He was a significant part of the waddington era = the total parts were greater than the individual 2 looking at individual skillls , heading, tackling , passing etc. Head and shoulders above anyone I have ever seen at volleying a ball - almost frightening

unbelievably I am talking to two blokes that USED to go to Stoke but haven't for some time and they are the first two people I have ever heard say that Greenhoff was crap. Apparently, he was "yellow" and lost his bottle after an ankle break early in his career. They are slating him for missing a one on one in the FA Cup Semi Final and one has said that "we would have won the FA Cup but for Greenhoff". I never saw Greenhoff play but I have never, until today, heard any Stoke fan have a bad word to say about him. I am off to play golf with them now so would appreciate any comments. I will then show them what a pair of wankers they are when I come in! If they know as much about golf as they seem to know about football, ask them to play for for money, you'll make a fortune.

I was a kid when I saw Jimmy Greenhoff play, and it is difficult to be objective about your childhood hero.
He scored some great goals though and had fantastic technique. Probably the best volleyer of a football I've seen to this day, and a great header of the ball too. Somebody will tell me about that goal where he twisted in the air to head and angle the ball into the opposite corner. He found space in the box and could make something of any delivery into him it seemed to me as a kid.
Red and White tinted glasses though!
Edit -sorry BigJohn, beat me to it about Jimmy's volleying. Unbelievable timing and technique.

Johnno, your mates are right about Huddy. Like alot of people, I would say Jimmy was my favourite player, but Hudson was the best.
I know the game was slower, but he had all the time in the world. For all he liked a drink he was a good trainer and fit too I'm led to believe. He could carry the ball, go past people and his vision and passing in the final third was incredible. Scored a few goals too.
