He just said it was a very bad challenge but doesn't believe the lad intended it so nothing controversial really unlike Dave Whelan who said the player won the ball cleanly!

Yeah but lets not forget, Wigan are a footballing side, incapable of ever intentionally hurting anyone!
For the record though, I think I must be going soft. Having watched it a few times I can't see what all the fuss is about.
He's clearly gone to play the ball, okay he's missed and shoulda probably walked BUT it is an occupational hazard.
I've gotta say, I don't like the way the Football at the top level is going, time wasting and diving almost accepted parts of the modern game, refs penalising perfectly good slide tackles and lunge tackles basically phasing that skill out of play.
I'm not advocating the sort of knee high tackles we saw at the weekend, it was a bloody silly challenge. But I think injuries like that are few and far between in fairness and the league and media could probably deal with it without the furore it seems to create at the moment.
