Do you think they've ever tried to train Ethers as a left back? Do you think they should? He's enough pace, and he's been running at fullbacks for years so it might be a poacher turned gamekeeper kind of deal.
For the purposes of this thread, can we try and stay off the shortcomings of the management? I know Mr 4-beasts-across-the-back is unlikely to be a fan.

Ha, ok! I was thinking that he had the anticipation & acceleration, if he can learn the positioning then maybe... Yes he's lightweight but then so is Ashley Cole. But you're right about his lack of bravery. Maybe it's watching Geoff Cameron there through my fingers got me talking bollocks.
So, you'd like to sign a specialist fullback then. Well, it's a pretty far out idea but it could work!

I can just see Ethers going in for crunching tackles at left back. Nevermind a stretcher, they'd need a fuckin' Dyson to get him off the pitch!!!

Also, how the fuck is Cole lightweight? ;D

If he dropped down a division I think Etherington could play central midfield
remember when Lou moved Gleghorn inside & we all thought it was daft.

Ethers had one of his better games today, and was a decent outlet at times.
However he fluffed a great chance to score by chickening out instead of putting his foot in where it might hurt.
Whether his injury history made him hesitant or his lack of confidence made him flat-footed, I don't know, but he's the last person I'd want in the trenches with me right now.
And let's face it, the area of the pitch occupied by our back four is the biggest, dirtiest, ugliest trench since World War One, so please Tone don't put him at left-back!
