Right we now have a sports science lab named after him, so what is happening about the proposed statue at the Brit.? Who is, was organising this and why has there been No apparent result. I almost feel sick that this has not happened as yet. We need to celebrate our club hero's and he is one!

it wasn't owned by us, it was owned by the council and they let us put it on display
last i heard was that the sculptor was supposed to be adding to it anyway (having 3 different poses similar to Stan's statue) but the council wanted us to front up the rest of the money but we (and the sculptor) pointed out that if the council owned it they should be putting the cash up.....no-one's heard anything since surprisingly
i think at the moment it's in Madeley?

I can just imagine you on monday morning phoning your boss, or maybe asking mummy to write you a sick note....Jonny wont be in today as they still haven't built a statue to Gordon Banks.

It's a long story and one I know a little bit about. Mickmillslovechild, the statue is categorically NOT owned by the council. It was supposed to have been financed by them but they pulled out and along with the club not committing to the installation of the statue, it left the guy who organised the whole thing stitched up and in a lot of debt. In my opinion the Banks statue(s) should be placed with the Matthews statue at the entrance to the Brit (on either side) so when opposing teams & fans arrive they're met by Sir Stan & the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the game! However, there needs to be some movement from the club!

We always seem to do things with best intentions with regards statues. But somehow manage to fuck things up. First the Stan statue is meant to have been lit and seen by all who pass the Brit on the A50. Yet cos of bushes it's never seen by visitors. The John Ritchie one (ok not a statue but another Stoke Legend) was put where it is because the idea big John would be looking in the direction of the old Vic. Ok. Nice idea but this jus doesn't work. Just looks like its waiting to be taken out with the bins. And now the Gordon Banks thing. Ok finances now dictate what happens. But in an ideal world I agree with the above. The Stan statue has to be one of the best footballing statues in the country. What a waste. Get it either outside the main entrance or somewhere on the grass by the away end. Get the Gordon Banks one in a similar place. And for fuck sake move poor big John and put him somewhere better.

can someone tell me for definite who owns it, where it is and who I need to speak with at the club to get this sorted please. I may now live at the bottom of the world but this carry on is plain rude to the man, who does belong at the Brit to be an inspiration to those that carry the club forward, weather they are us fans, players or management.

Check the second article linked in my post above, for it's current whereabouts. You might also see some mention of who owns it, in one of those two articles. But it is all a bit unclear if I am honest. Tony Scholes is probably your first point of call regarding who to speak to at the club. Best of luck, kiwi ... Like you I think it a great shame at least the existing statue is not on permenant display outside the Brit. Let us know how you get on

It would completely 'blow out of the water' my theory on education standards declining in this country. Aside from that, Kiwi is a Stokie and he cares, this in your view is a bad thing, fucking unbelievable.

Up (or should that be down) Hanley.

I agree with both sentiments expressed:- a) It is a real shame it is not at the Brit b) Hanley Museum is much better than Madley School (no offense, Madley, I always loved your duck pond). Hanley Museum woudl at least mean he was seen as a famous son of The Potteries, rather than just Madley. (You'd think world+dog might have been told that this was the plan?) Thanks for the update kiwi, well done for having a look at the situation

yes glad to see him in some where he will be seen by anyone that ventures up 'anley. Like most I would rather see " A " statue at the Brit, like I said earlier as inspiration to all that came to see us play and remind others that we can be great!
