Watching Stoke is more than just about the match to me. It's about identity and belonging to something bigger. The social/tribal experience of seeing people at every home game who I know absolutely nothing about outside of football, but know they share the same passion for SCFC as I do. Stoke City represent my city in the game I love and I am proud to support them, regardless of whatever division we are in or how good/bad the football is. Players/managers/chairmen come and go, but the club remains to represent our city on the field of play.
Or I'm just a sad bastard who needs to get a life...

I watch them because ever since the early 60's they have dominated my life. My Dad took me to see one of Sir Stan's last games in 1964. I moved from the Potteries in 1979 after graduating but have always had a season ticket. I even got married on a Friday in November in the 80's so that I didn't miss the Saturday fixture. I turned down promotion at work and a move to Boston USA because it would mean missing them play. My missus thinks I am an idiot. She is a Man U fan from Yorkshire, used to be a season ticket holder at Old Trafford before we met. I refuse to take her to see them so she refuses to come to Stoke with me. But when I watch the match the adrenalin rush is fantastic. There is no enjoyment in the true sense, and never has been, because even if we are winning I am worried about seeing out the 90 minutes. If we are playing well and not scoring I get nervous. It is the tension and the unpredictability that is like a drug. And going to away games especially has always been great because you felt that the fellow Stokies shared your passion and your tension, Vis Unita Fortior indeed. Unlike our home crowds, which have always tended to have their fair share of whingers and complainers; the sort who slagged off Peter Dobing, Jimmy Robertson, Steve Bould, and in latter years Mama, Glenn Whelan and Shotts. Potteries folk are no different in that respect than most other football fans. The current debate on TP is completely irrelevant to me. That's why I hardly ever post on here. I'll support them whoever is in charge, and however we play. It's my drug habit and no one will ever take it away. That's a great post in the usual pile of shite.

If I went for the entertainment value then I'd have stopped going many years ago - long before Pulis came to Stoke.
There are millions of us around the country who are probably sane, well-balanced people most of the time - except when it comes to following our local team.
Probably the sensible option is to look at which club plays the best football, wins most trophies and support them.
That's why there are so many United supporters around.
But I'm not sane when it comes to Stoke. Before every game I expect us to play well and win. And no matter how many times reality kicks me in the teeth I just keep coming back and supporting Stoke.
It's crazy, I know, but I've always supported Stoke and always will.

watching your football team is a form of self destruction you love them one week and the next you could tear your hair out with frustration (lossed all mine) but it is my blood its like a drug up one week down the next. And in the last 30years there has been more lows than highs and most of the highs have been in the last 6 years and I don't care who is in charge as long as we run out in red and white.

Probably for the same reason some people pay to attend clubs to get whipped by leather paddles and forced to lick toilet seats...

Genuine question.. Expecting a lot of different answers but, why do YOU watch Stoke City?Know no different. My old man started taking me when I was 4 and it's become habit. And a habit I don't intend to kick anytime soon! I can't remember how old I was but, other than that, exactly the same reason for me. Suspect that's the case with the majority of supporters

If I went for the entertainment value then I'd have stopped going many years ago - long before Pulis came to Stoke. Good point. Over the last twenty years since the first reign of Lou ended, following the Ball years, we have endured the dour defensive Joe Jordan, the negative 5-3-2 formations of Little and Gudjon, the short reign of another defensive minded manager in Megson, and the less said about the short lived tenures of Bates, Kamara and Cotterill the better. Apart from Lou's second spell the only attack minded manager we have had in this period was Boskamp, which was entertaining but not for the right reasons. Yet we kept on backing the team and are still here.

Heisenberg,
I guess that 5-1 win was against Wycombe Wanderers to take us top of Division 3 at the time.
For me it was teh last game I managed to take him to a game.
He is the reason I started supporting Stoke at age 7 and travelling to Stoke at every opportunity since to watch and support those in red and white.
I will continue to be there as long as I can get up every other week
