Been to the pub tonight, bit drunk but cant get Stoke out of my head. In 1977 aged 6 me dad took me to my first game against Spurs in what was then division 2. We were 3-1 down with about 5 mins left when dad said we should leave early to avoid the traffic. I refused, I was naive enough to believe we would pull it back it win. As a result of this we were caught up in a mini riot when I got scared shitless by rampaging Spurs fans down the back alleys near the police station. But i was hooked...from that moment until I die I will be Stoke. I was too young to fully appreciate or understand the promotion in 1979. I went occasionally to the Vic during the early eighties, listened to my dad ramble on about the 70's...and confess to getting hooked on Liverpool as they were always live on BBC.I hate myself for it but I loved Ian Rush. I was young and impressionable, but beneath the surface my heart was Stoke. When we got relegated I was gutted but thought heyho we will be back soon. Mills, then Ball followed...despite the absolute mediocrity of it I lived and breathed Stoke. If we won I was made up for the week, defeat and I was a miserable git. At Uni I took my mates to games, they loved the passion of the Stoke fans, those memorable battles in old div 2 against West Brazil and Brum. Heartbreak against Stockport in 1992, a play off defeat that took all summer to get over. Then the messiah Macari got us promoted as champs, the unbeaten run, Steino scoring for fun, Grobelaar on loan, Rooster down the wings and the ball getting stuck in the mud in the cup game at Vale. Those early days back in div 1 when we thought the forward line of Steino, Carruthers and Regis was awesome...that magic win at Forest live on ITV. The Man utd cup game, the despair of Steino and Macari leaving. Jordan and those silly scottish signings...then the return of Macari. Play off heartache to Leicester, cmon Potter be brave and dont fear that bloody post. Chic bloody Bates and Paul Stewart...oh my god then Krissy Kamara! Remember singing were shit and were sick of it...no new golden era at the Brit. Man City 2-5 last day of the season, how could we be so poor?? 6 wins at the start of 1998/9...Little screwing it up and despair. Megson sorting us out, the Icelandic revolution...4-0 against Wycombe. Play off heartache 2 years running...Gudjon's 5-3-2!! aggh! Despair against Cardiff...Burton's last gasp goal...then the stuff of legends...Oulare's arse and all. I was so pissed that night I rang Radio Stoke! The trip to Cardiff...what a day. The thankyou Gudjon but f*** off. Oh dear Quitterill! Thankyou TP for saving us...Akinbiyi. Crossley, Warhurst et all. Top of the league early doors...then the slide...thank god for Taggart. TP and Icelandic fall out...new contract then fired. Johan the clown...3-0 defeats at home...the Return of St Peter...can we trust him this time? The return of TP...pulisball and binary scores! Hudsongod's redcards thwarted by Hendrie, loan signings, but thwarted by late equalisers by Sinderland, Hull and Cardiff. Despair at QPR. Now 2007-2008...what a rollercoaster...top of the league in August...will Diao ever sign, Ryan who? How could we sell Higgy, Hoef and Russell? Pugh and Cort on loan...3-1 v West Brazil...we love you Riccy. Top of the league...then ouch!! Lawrence mental vs Coventry, but West Brazil and Hell City win in midweek. Now Pottermouth...legend...do it, just do it. Please please Stoke do it...I have followed you for 31 years and now the time has come...make this the all time great memory. Cmon Stoke
