I'm not sure there's a translator in the world that could interpret what he says.

Could make a decent manager, Carragher. not saying you're wrong but based on what exactly? the only time we hear him talk football is on ITV when he's a pundit (and not a particularly good one at that) just seems to be one of those things trotted out when any player who's been in the Prem for years retires...ufortunately doesn't seem to bear fruit very often though

Maybe not at a high level but I'm not sure he gives a toss to be honest. Bloke lives for football.

Stuck with Liverpool throughout his career. Much to be admired in that kind of loyalty. Not much of it about in the game these days.

Bloke lives for football. fair enough, wasn't asking cos i disagreed just wondering as i hadn't seen much myself. might give it a read,as you say he's always seemed very dedicated to his career and has a genuine love for the game to be fair to him which is refreshing in this day and age of egotistical superstars getting £100k+ a week when they're barely out of their teens

Although perhaps not as articulate or even erudite as Gary Neville, he's displayed the same level of professional commitment and honesty throughout his career that these days is getting much harder to find. Edit- oh! You modified your post to say much the same.

They won't miss his pace, that's for sure!
A good player in his day though, and a great servant to his club. I'm one of those who can't understand some of the bile aimed at him. If I had to rank current Prem footballers in order of nastiness with the worst at the top, he'd be at 100 or below.

Even though he plays for Liverpool, he's one of the few remaining classic no nonsense center halves who actually got fired up and stuck in in a derby game and I'm pretty gutted he's retiring. I always thought he should have played more for England.
