Ahead of his 100th cap...especially from the BBC...'misunderstood' 'People don't know what he is like as a person'...'can't understand the booing of him in some England games' I could go on but pass the sick bucket please. Any Ashley love coming from the Oatie?

He's the only genuinely world class player that we've had in this "generation".
I couldn't give a fuck if he shagged about behind wor Cheryl's back.

Sickening.
The gist on the BBC seems to be, forget what he's like as a person, show respect for his football ability.
Well, frankly, get stuffed.
If I was playing against him on the football pitch, I'd show respect to his football ability. As it is, I'm watching him on TV and I'll be forming my opinions based on the countless articles I've read about his despicable behaviour over the past decade I've been unfortunate enough to have him represent my country on the football pitch, from shooting youth team players, to crying into his champagne about his measly 55 grand weekly salary to lying in court to get racist bullies off the hook, thanks very much.

To be fair. We gave him loads of stick this year from where we sit and he had a good bit of banter with us

He is a tool off the field (remember the shot gun thing at Chelsea's training ground) but agree with above that he is the only England player who would consistently get in a World XI over the last 10 years.

Best England left back of my lifetime.
The whole thing about him being hated is indicative of how people love to hate these days. I might not like Ashley Cole if I knew him but so what? The slave thing was hugely wrong BUT that's the nature of footballers at that level. That is the life they lead. No connection to reality.

I think the hatred is more indicative of the way Ashley Cole has consistently conducted himself off the pitch over the past decade. There are loads of footballers at his level that I don't hate.

Extremely effective PL player, but like all the wretched golden (shower) generation, routinely exposed on the international stage. Extremely good going forward and very quick, but embarrassingly one-footed and can be relied upon to lose concentration and/or make basic errors.
Slightly better (but only marginally) than Mike Pejic.
World class salary, mind you.

What has he done that's so wrong? ;D That's kind of the opposite of asking what the Romans have ever done for us. Even the nauseating, gushing articles by the Chelsea-sympathising London press about Cole winning his 100th cap felt the need to urge people to ignore his dislikeable personality when celebrating his football career. He's the ultimate example of the arrogant, shallow, rude wanker who personifies everything that many fans hate about the overhyped charade that passes for modern day football. If I had to select one example of his contemptible arrogance, it would be the way he changed his evidence during the John Terry racism trial, blatantly lying to try to get his loathsome mate off the hook, and when he was called out on it, instead of keeping a low profile, sent a Twitter statement dismissing those that questioned his behaviour as a #bunchofcunts. Good player though.

Like I said earlier, footballers at that level don't live in reality. Not normal reality. His slave statement was wrong on so many levels, but he's a product of his environment. With the slave comment the difference between him and other players is that he was honest/stupid enough to say it publicly.

With the slave comment the difference between him and other players is that he was honest/stupid enough to say it publicly. If he's only a product of his enviroment who gets into trouble for being honest/stupid, why do you think the public has so much more contempt for Ashley Cole than even Wayne Rooney or Steven Gerrard? They're hardly a couple of bright sparks. Only John Terry rivals Cole for public hatred among footballers. Is Terry just too honest for his own good too?

At the absolute top level sometimes found out. Having said that I think there are really very few genuine world class defenders anymore -mainly due to divers, bad refs and a lack of craftsmanship when it comes to the art of tackling.
At international level Cole nowhere near as good as several Brazilians or Italians. Now behind Baines in the England pecking order.
Better going forward than Mike Pejic, although Micky could certainly cross a ball, but if they went in for a 50/50 would be bye-bye Cole.
He's a vile individual and I cannot look past that and appreciate him at all I'm afraid. One of the thick and spoiled brigade who has helped to build a wall between the terraces and the players on the pitch.
