In the Swansea match there were no yellow cards. Have Stoke been warned about the worst yellow card record in 'The Prem' as Ryan could have fouled Davies before he ran through? Also, there were no tackles in the area;Is this because referees will give a penalty even if a Stoke player sneezes at an opponent in the box?

That is exactly what was being discussed on our coach on the way back from the Swansea game, it does make you wonder because our defence did seem determined to avoid any serious contact anywhere near the box.

Nicholas for once I agree with you about something We need to stay edgy defending... but then can we do that without the security of a 3rd equally strong CB to cover when suspensions come? No, truthfully - and the CBs are way too exposed because Tone is so indecisive about the difference between an FB and a winger and too often lately we get the worst of both worlds there.

For once I'm confused about your meaning of "edging defending" You seem to be a fish out of water

The lack of fullback cover has to be having an effect. Other teams are onto this now.

Ryan's shiny new contract could have a bearing on it too.

The highlighting of pulling/pushing and Ryan's two penalty give aways may have a bearing, but I think ultimately it comes down to confidence in your team mates. At full back, whoever has played, we have been having a 'mare for a while now, not helped by the chopping and changing in personnel. Ryan and Rob don't trust the full backs, so are trying to do more than their own jobs, being over-exposed as a consequence. Get Wilko (I guess!) at RB and Wilson LB for a consistent spell and we will improve.

I do think Shawcross should have just stopped Davies when he had the chance. But that would have given a free-kick away in the exact area they scored from as a result of Adam being clumsy/Bego standing too far to his left.

teams may have found us out. We rely on 2 banks of four and keeping teams wide or in front of us. Since Southampton teams have been making more runs from deep and men are not being picked up as the runner falls between midfield and defence

Since Southampton teams have been making more runs from deep and men are not being picked up as the runner falls between midfield and defence That's pretty much what's happening at the moment. We didn't rely so much on the actual defenders as on the entire team's defensive shape. I'm sure Pulis is on it though.

I dont think it is so bad , Southampton was due to changes Man City was as per usual Chelsea was a bit of an odd one with the two og's even 0-0 at half time would have changed that game Swansea away is a banker loss for us because they can pull our big defenders out of position first goal was an out of character slip by Walters and Bego had a mare on the second
One thing for sure that is not helping is Adam's inability to do basic defensive work , he seems a total liability
Better full backs will always help and Im not sure why Shotton has disappeared again as he has done ok this season at right back

Shotts injured knee in training at start of last week, that's why he didn't play against palace. Don't think it's serious though. Deserves a run at rb I think.

Although, I'm never sure whether to laugh or cry when we point out a withdrawn striker's defensive failings ...

OP
I agree that our defenders seem to be treading on eggshells because of our perceived reputation with officials thro' media persistance with our perceived reputation. If you get my drift.
Bleeding tossers, media and the bandwagon following officials.

When the defending was brilliant we weren't tackling in the area.

Agree with virtually all that has been said in this thread and been saying it for a few weeks, 1 thing I will add for consideration is the performances of Bego of late, I still rate him as the a great keeper who has pulled off some great save of late but on the flip side he has let a few in that he would normally of eaten, could this be anything to do with outside interest or at least reports of outside interest, the last time he was linked with a move to Chelski he refused to play in the team as he said his head was not right...I think it was Shrewsbury away although not 100% sure so is his head being turned again, obviously he would hear of interest weeks before we do.........
No proof just a thought

Did I miss that meeting?
