If not Tony Pulis, who should be manager?
Anyone saying his time is up, it's time for him to go etc. really needs to be able to suggest a realistic/available alternative.
I am not saying I dont think he should go, but I can't think of anyone better (though I haven't given it much thought).
If you can't suggest anyone to fill the role then it is probably rather short sighted to suggest he goes now

People Will Say:
Poyet Di Canio Solskjaer (see the Dear St Peter Thread) Wouldn't rule out someone saying Adkins.

I'd like to see what Ian Holloway could do with money available.

Mark Hughes Kenny Jackett Malky McKay Nigel Pearson Ian Holloway Simon Grayson Sean O'Driscoll
Any of those could do a job at this club given the finances the current manager has had at his disposal.

I'll have the job! I've no coaching badges but on my cv I will say how I can see Walters ain't a winger, Adam can't play in the hole, crouch is too weak and slow to be a target man, and we need to buy a bloody left back!!

That's the problem IF Pulis goes I can only see Gary Megson coming in. Big pals with Coates , been here before , plays the same way.

Can anyone honestly name a manager who is
1) Proven at this level (i.e. his record in the PL is at least as good as Tone's) and
2) Will not radically alter our style of play... which would involve a very painful transitionary period and potential relegation

Mark Hughes....!!! Please god no... Like to see Mad Mick given a go Hughes had a shitter at QPR but did very good jobs at Blackburn and Fulham where he had to turn water into wine. He had a player in David Bentley performing like he never has before and since and brought in players like Samba, Pedersen (another like Bentley). He also brought in the likes of Dembele at Fulham.

Pulis wasn't proven at this level when we first went up, so that doesn't really matter.

Mick McCarthy...seriously? He's the only one who met the two criteria that was asked for, I wouldn't go near him myself.

Hughes lost the plot (along with the owner) at QPR but is a good manager. Would be ideal for Stoke IMHO.
Saying that I'd have anyone rather than Pulis*
*other than Megson or Adkins who are both odious cunts.

Pulis wasn't proven at this level when we first went up, so that doesn't really matter. Yes it does. Big sky deal kicks in next year. When we were first promoted we weren't in a position to have a proven PL manager... now we don't need to take that risk.

Exactly my point. Pulis is incredibly frustrating at times but his overrall record is pretty good and the alternatives are far worse.

To be fair to Mark Hughes, at QPR and Man City he was in a scenario with a load of players he couldn't work with. At Blackburn where he built up his team, he was a success and at Fulham.

Nigel Pearson? 50% win rate over 172 games with Leicester (two spells granted, with some in League One). Plays decent football and is a really steady character. Underrated manager IMHO who deserves a crack at the Premier League. I reckon he'll get it one day.

Pulis has proven he has one tactic which is just negative, give me someone who has tactical knowledge any day of the week, you don't need to be a proven PL manager to have that
