I think the overriding view I take from threads like these is that the majority are in a similar place to me.
We appreciate everything Tone has done, we don't want him removed but given half an hour in an empty room, I'd thankfully knock some fucking sense into him and shout "play your best fucking team in their right bastard positions" until I lost my voice.

If you're of the opinion that Tony Pulis's departure would mean certain relegation, then I'm afraid that you simply can't have a high opinion of the job the man's done or the ability of the Coates family - one of the wealthiest in the country - to make the right appointment and maintain their commitment to Stoke City. If, after five or six years managing this club, TP's departure means that everything would collapse then it simply means that he would have left absolutely no legacy. There are plenty of examples of clubs who have appointed a new manager after a successful one has departed and have carried on regardless. Yesterday's opponents being one. If any of these people predicting the end of the club if and when Tony Pulis departs would like to give me a reason why, I'd love to hear it. Herein lies the problem for me. I could quite easily see Coates, making an appointment like Gary Megson or someone along those lines and we'd just keeping bumping along with the same kind of shite just a different man spouting/producing it. It would be up to the supporters to ensure Coates knew that an appointment like Megson would not be tolerated. You might as well keep Pulis as appoint Megson, both are clueless when it comes to football and are as divisive as each other.

How about creating a poll to gauge the feeling a bit more accurately ? I would but I don't know how to do it.

Nigel Pearson is the future for a club like us. He can grow with the current group and stamp his authority on it given time. Really steady character and already knows the club.
50% win rate at well over 150 games for Leicester is not to be sniffed at.
In comparison to our boss:
Gillingham - 43% (216 games) Pompey - 31% (35 games) Bristol City - 30% (33 games) Stoke (first spell) - 35% (131 games) Plymouth - 31% (39 games) Stoke (2nd spell) - 37% (317 games)

Sick of hearing this crap about other teams like soton and sacking Adkins, yes at this stage in the season it's wrong but who's heard of pochettinno (sp) he may turn out to be a great manager. I agree pulis has to stay until end of season but then let's take a chance on someone else if Coates backs them like he has tone you never know. Change isn't always a bad thing people.

Why do we have to have this question every time we have a poor result and performance? Where do we honestly think we are going to get in this league? I am as passionate about the club as every other fan but to think we have any chance of breaking into the top 6 to 8 of the league then im sorry but we are sadly mistaken. Im no fan of pulis ball but we are holding our own in one of the most difficult leagues in the world. We could attempt to be a little more adventurous away from home and it would be nice to see better players in the team and a more attractive style of play but realistically to achieve this we would have to sack the capped one and risk our very existence in the league and possibly put ourselves in a great deal of debt. So no lets not sack the man

If any of these people predicting the end of the club if and when Tony Pulis departs would like to give me a reason why, I'd love to hear it. The problem Stoke would face, almost uniquely, is that it would be very difficult to find another manager whose style of play is the same as TP's. Our squad of players has been assembled to suit TP's philosophy, if you change that then you will have to make wholesale changes to the squad. I'd suggest, for example, no other manager would have Walters in his squad. Replacing TP would not be a case of evolution it would be revolution. Look at the problems Lambert is having at the Villa trying to build his own side based on his thinking. You refer to Swansea as an example of seamless integration with the new manager continuing the philosophy of his predecessor, it wouldn't be like that at Stoke unless you could find a TP Mk2, in which case why change it? As to who would replace TP I've yet to see a credible, realistic alternative suggestion. Last season people were suggesing names like Lambert, I just wonder whether Stoke fans would have any patience with a new manager whilst he tried to turn things round to his way of doing things, I suspect not. This shouldn't mean that TP is immune from facing the axe, however if he does get the chop I'd just say the fall out could be pretty catastrophic in the immediate term.

Having read every post on this thread it is evident that the overwhelming reason people want to stick with Pulis is because they feel relegation will come quickly if he leaves.
I can't understand how so many people are crippled by this ridiculous fear.
Those like the poster above who says no other manager could take Pulis's team without jeopardising our premiership survival are wrong. We have plenty good enough players now to play a more expansive system effectively and all it needs is the best players to play in the positions to which they are best suited.
But just suppose for a minute this was true, Pulis is then guilty of building a flimsy and precarious structure with the millions that he has been given that is totally and utterly reliant on him and would collapse the moment he is dispensed with. Is that the sort of manager we should idolise?
Thanks to Peter Coates we have a club that would be very attractive for a top manager ,maybe a manager we have never even heard of?

Rather have cheaper Championship footie with something to challenge for, rather than the fear of relegation each year and dull footie.A younger manager would bring the excitement back by having a more attacking squad and not be relient on 6ft shithouses and the worry of "I've never been relegated you know"

Yes. The ones who fear we will be relegated if he leaves are the ones who fear change in any aspect of life. The tactics have to change, as many will not renew their season tickets. Unfortunately, tp is incapable of this.

Being young is no guarantee of anything. I don't care how old they are. I'd want a Premiership experienced manager with a proven track record of keeping an average sized club in the Premier League that would be tactically flexible enough to work with the technically limited squad at his disposal. Wishing ourselves back into the Championship is absolute fucking ridiculous.

We should be able to cope from where we are now with the existing players in a different system. We will never know as TP will not change the way he wants the team to play. Change is always a risk so it depends whether you are content to continue to exist in the Premier League or not. Standing still is not an option as other teams around us continue to improve. If the point of being in the top league is to watch the opposition, fair enough. Personally I would like to see us play better quality football more than who we play against

BM Because this is TP's team who play how TP wants them to. Another manager with another style would last as quickly as Sammy Lee did at Bolton & I see no point getting in a different manager with the same style. TP is not leaving until PC is no longer chairman & even then if 'the Coates family' are still in charge they may have the same view of TP that PC does. When TP goes the next manger will be on a hiding to nothing.

So for those who have bothered to give credence to this thread - and i have resisted until now - that is out of Oatcake Poll about 10% say yes no question and the rest say No. Then you have about 200,000 other Stoke Supporters in the City and beyond, of which 95% will say NO. So what is the point of this thread? Nothing because nothing will happen because someone on the Oatcake wants it to happen. Would be better spent trying to do and say something useful!

Pretty ridiculous thread, I can't quite believe that it's grown to eleven pages No would be my answer, the guy has done far too much in his decade in charge for the club. Three defeats to three decent teams and everyone starts to panic. It's a good job that Peter Coates is in charge of the club rather than some of the melodramatic supporters we have in the stands! Yesterday was a bad day at the office, comprehensively outplayed by a club which is progressing at an alarming rate. Having said that Swansea have turned over a lot of teams in the past two seasons who are a hell of a lot better than ourselves! Keep Calm, Carry On, and Get the Beers In!
