is it? what about Spurs' spending, or facts like our league position, unbeaten run and goals conceded? I know its hard for some to accept, especially clowns like Jarhead who must be gutted again tonight Why is it that some people can not take a balanced view of the situation. How about the facts that AGAIN we are one of the worst scorers /attackers in the league... what about the fact that TP continually plays mis firing players and refuses to buy players that are needed and play them in there correct position... how about the fact that we play atrocious foitball alot of the time. some of us arent fortunate enough to be able to spend hundreds of pounds following stoke (which i used to) some have commitments that are more important but at the moment it is a blessing in disguise i want to see my team play at the highest level for the rest of my life but I also want entertainment for my money. did you see the first half? we were the better team and created the better chances You think just because we have spent £100m or whatever it is that we should be beating teams like Spurs?

The point is that the 'balanced', sane, intelligent, call it what you like- view is the we are doing tremendously well !!! To criticise our attacking intent today is downright silly and to be honest to question the managers overall approach to making sure we are part of next seasons gravy train (which will set the club up for years to come) is a little bit daft too.

It was stated tonight by some silly little boy on Praise and Grumble that If it wasn't for Stoke defence we would be bottom of the prem, what stupid statement , what do they expect us to play without any defence. So what about if it wasn't for Manchester United's attack they would be joint bottom. just as stupid . i was that "stupid little boy" and at what point did i say that we would be bottom of the league? Its tits like you that have to take a statement and twist it to make your argument valid! I said that if we didnt have such a good defence we would be in a scrap and we would! You tell me how scoring 15 goals by christmas is good enough if we werent so rock solid at the back? at no fucking point did I slag Pulis off or slag us off... I merely said that we need to score more goals and that is a valid point correct?? and we had a good first half but had 2/3 attempts all game which further backs my point up... how amazingly different the table could look if we had even scored 5 more than we already have!

A fair point about the manager, but you know as well as me the approach would be the same no matter how much money was up for grabs. He's just a very defensively minded Manager, bordering on negative.

The starting 11 today included 9 who were outside the Prem before making their SCFC debuts in this league and 2 who were reserves at struggling Prem clubs. Amazing how TP has turned them into such a unit and a good reason why he shouldn't bother signing any more show ponies with big reputations. (I would make an exception with Bent) .

Correct, £100m spent It's a fact, get over it No its not - only a fool would consider the figure to be even close to that. What utter, utter nonsense. You are very good a knocking the £100m figure but never once commit a figure yourself. You know it's £100m but for some odd reason you don't want to admit it

Jarhead,
Assuming your £100M(up from£75m) is correct, how much money has he generated? I suspect that both our turnover and overall net worth has a club is far better than any team in the prem'
I suggest some of you moaning about signings etc go and read some of the opposition boards. Spurs think adebayor and Defoe can't play together and AVB has been out thought by Pulis.
The Aston villa performance deserved criticism although they then went and stuffed the scousers. Today we actually took on a genuine top 4 team, restricted them to one real class effort. We had three.

It was me that said that we were guilty AT TIMES of overplaying.
We could have been more direct on quite a few occasions and on 2 in particular, it cost KJ a good run on goal. 2 years ago, we wouldn't have hesitated to hit the long diagonal into the channels.
It wasn't a criticism and was meant as an example that we are changing the way we have played and that we are still searching for the right balance.
Radio Stoke phoned me before the game to ask if I would go on as they had an hour to fill due to our tinpot local rivals not being able to play their games.
There was no agenda given to me other than to say "tell us what you think of the game". There were 2 guys on before me, both who clearly hadn't been to the game.
The 0-0 at Villa was shit. We didn't try to play and set our stall out for a 0-0. We got it but it was horrible.
Today was a totally different 0-0. I enjoyed it and thought we played very well until the introduction of Crouch.

I've no idea Webby. If you were one of the two callers that I heard before me, then I would say that not being at the game definitely influenced the interpretation of it. Absolutely 100%.
If you were on after me or before the 2 callers I heard, then I haven't got a clue because I didn't hear what you had to say as I was travelling home from the match.
EDIT - we do need to score more goals and at times (Villa, Norwich away, Sunderland, QPR at home) we need to be more adventurous for sure.
Today, we created several really good chances and we wasted at least 4 really good situations by choosing the wrong pass or just not being good enough to play it.
I was asked to comment on TODAY'S game and the two callers I heard were wrong to make the comments that they did on the basis of TODAY'S game. Had they been discussing the Villa game, they would have been spot on!

And my sole point really was the lack of goals / creating goals and that was a generalisation not just based on today's game... I even said that it was a great point but I was concerned by the lack of goals, I said nothing about how we played.... I just can't stand people that have such a 1sided view of us and their glasses are so rose tinted that you can't have a opinionated discussion without being called a silly Little boy or a wanker et al!

The extremists, from both factions, do make it hard.
There are plenty who will engage in serious Stoke chat, both positive and negative yet constructive, regardless of your standpoint.
You just have to sort the "wheat from the chaf" so to speak and know who is and who isn't worth bothering with on here.
I am none the wiser as to whether you were on in the 1 and half callers immediately before me. I was on about 5.20pm I think!

£100M, brilliant!!! It's comedy hour again! Correct, £100m spent It's a fact, get over it is that over the last 100 years? lets face it the team that got promoted would have been relegated without investment. it amazes me to see this figure bandied about yet the authors never mention how much other clubs have spent?i dread to think what sunderland have spent in the last 5 years or even qpr, newcastle the list is endless. i am sure some of the posters on here would like a forward line of tuncay, cisse and fuller lets have goals after all id doesnt matter if we lose 4-3 every game does it? ffs get a gripof yourselves, we played well yesterday and with a bit more composure infront of goal we could have won, i am a very happy st holder who is enjoying every moment in the prem but then again i dont read the daily mail ;D

nett spend is bollocks though Padders isn't it.
If we sold Shawcross, Huth and Begovic, as we would no doubt have been able to do at various times over the last 12 months, we would make a massive dent in the "nett spend".
We have wasted some money (a lot for us at times) on some seriously dud players (the Crouch/Palacios money being the biggest waste of resource) but if nett spend was the guideline for the success or failure of transfer business, by selling those 3, as the likes of Villa and many others would have done, ours wouldn't look too bad.
Talking of Villa, Martin O'Neil's nett spend at Villa wasn't too bad becaue they recouped 40 odd million by selling Milner and Barry but he spent an absolute fortune on some very average players and then left them in the lurch!

Good post. Just to add if it wasn't for some of the new players since promotion we could have gone back down to the champ and lost a hell of a lot more than £100m in sky cash etc.No manager has 100% success in the transfer market but the fact that we have never been in the position to buy top players before just highlights us.
