OK, let's say we get promotion after beating Leicester at home in May.
The stadium errupts with absolute mayhem and the biggest mental the club has seen since 1972. Tony Pulis is carried around the ground on the shoulders of Stoke Supporters and the players collapse with relief and joy!
So, how would you honestly react if the stadium announcer introduced Peter Coates onto the pitch to claim some of the plaudits?
Personally I would definitely clap and cheer because I feel that he has finally supported the club poperly, has a relationship with the Manager that is healthy for all concerned at the club and, once and for all, he has managed to show us what investment can achieve.... In terms of Ameobi, by all accounts I even go as far to say he's probably "over" invested?
I remind myself that I was one of those supporters calling for his head not too far back, he could never repay us for his actions in recent years and yet I find myself eating my words today... Ironic eh?
Thoughts? Thanks, Mac

when he was last in charge in he wasn't very rich was he, now hes worth about 300million with a business that turns over £1bn a year, i for one would run on and hug him for the work he has done, for us
we own our own ground
we own the training ground and has brought facilities for it with changing rooms and press rooms etc
we can buy players who want big wages ( paying ameobi 25k p/w and paid 700k for him )
he has tied down our best players on new contracts.

its a difficult one. on the one hand, without his cash we probably wouldnt have come this far, on the other, his cash is still an 'investment', he's a business man and the fans have earned any success more than anyone else has!
tbh if we go up, ill probably be a wreck and therefore not thinking about coates, but if he asked me id tell him he's still a prick and the fact his cash is making amends doesnt change the fact.
but please keep it coming

As far as I am concerned Pmac, Coates deserves more credit than ANYONE if we make it up.
I will be standing on my seat and clapping him until my hands hurt!

;DBristol Mick!!! ;DFeeerkin ell mate........ LONG time no see fella!! How are you? Like people have said it's a difficult one and yes, he is a business investor, however - whilst he's thrown money at the club for once, I think the support he's given to TonyP has been a breath of fresh air when we consider the events that unfolded at our club prior to him being brought back. Football is always a dodgy investment and the risks are astronomically high..... He must have set out a plan, stuck to it, commited financially and now it "could" pay off handsomely for him and all of us. Good point raised by stokeypokey when he says: " the fans have earned any success more than anyone else has!" - I'd agree with that - we've certainly put up with some bollocks at times If we get promotion, it'd be nice to see TP and PC walk out in front of a mental Boothen End and get some accreditation I feel. It'd be the finest footballing experience I've ever had and to think a lot of supporters have NEVER seen Stoke City in the top flight! Amazing eh!

Life is to short to bear a grudge. Peter Coates has shown time and time again during his second time at the club that he means business. He has backed his vision to get Stoke City into the premiership relentlessly. Without him we'd be probably be playing in league one now.

I don't understand why some of you find this one difficult.
I was an arch-critic of PC for years but only ever for two reasons, both legitimate at the time and with no regrets.
I hated the fact that, in 1992, upon promotion, he admitted that "the club now needs someone richer than me" - and then did his damnedest to make sure that no-one had the chance!
We wasted years, guessing that he and KH were no longer asking a price for their shares that all previous directors had asked - i.e. £1 per share. We were to be proved correct, at £8 per share.
The most heinous problem, however, was that no-one had come in (until the naive Icelanders) because of the loathsome Golden Shares, derived thanks to an underhand change of the Articles of Association, on the eve of the takeover, whereby (for newcomers on this board) they could never be removed from the board etc.
Now that those have been rescinded and PC has done much to prove his ambitions for the club, I'm happy to let byegones be bygones and get on with supporting the football club fully, which gives me much greater pleasure.
A united club has a much greater chance of being fully successful and things have greatly improved. We're on the brink, so let's go for it, lads, starting on Saturday.
City for ever.

Great Post Surrey Stokie.
I too remember the detail you went into in terms of Peter Coates "handling" of the club and as such, the position he created for himself at the time.
It seemed too ludicrous for words and you, I, and many many supporters were quite within our rights to highlight the facts that what was happening at the club was nothing short of a disgrace.
And yes, you are also right that it went on year after year without let up, only to be compounded by the Icelanders involvement and a fractured board attempting to run the club with seemingly disastrous and highly embarrassing results.
So, to hear that even you are willing to "let bygones be bygones, is, for me, a welcome sign that throughout the club, from the top through to the support, Stoke City Football Club have moved on and can now live upto the motto on the best emblem there's ever been.

In Mr coates' 1st term I must admit I despised what he did to our club, since he has come back though I can't fault his commitment, and as others have said life is too short to bear a grudge.
We've all made fuck ups in the past and I'm glad I've had second chances when i've hardly deserved them so why should Peter not be allowed his?
Thankyou Mr Coates

PMac, as I sit so near to PC, I may even be blowing him a kiss after the Leicester match. Ah, heady days. Just a small negative. How I wish he'd show some emotion when the inevitable opposition goal goes in and I'm doing my nut.
