Nothing difficult to understand. We cancelled each other out which is why pretty much the same Villa team has had 17 shots tonight and scored 4 against a team on an excellent run. Villa only had 5 shots and they were the home team. Maybe if they had not played so defensively to stop us playing we might have had more shots at goal. I dont understand why that is so difficult to understand Nice one your spot on padders do you regard our team so highly that we should be battering Villa away?

What I do expect after £100m spent is to offer something in attack and have some shots on target. I'm gutted to think so many fans are happy to go away to a team in 16th place who have won 3 games in 15 and not offer a single shot on target. Truly shocking stuff. Villa are full of kids. Out of their team on Saturday I would only want one of their players.

Yes we are above Villa and yes over the season so far we have played better than Villa. I'm happy because we didn't lose, those kids scored 4 goals tonight away to Norwich!

Lets not forget the awful performances against QPR, Norwich, Sunderland, WBA also. Saturday wasn't a one off. It's getting worse!

There is another school of thought here but many on here won't be interested in hearing it. Up until the Sunderland game I thought, and many others have echoed the point, that we were actually producing more, and better, chances than last season. We went to Chelsea and Old Trafford and had a good go at both of them which was a refreshing change and the manpower changes looked promising. Sunderland are playing like a poorer version of us this season and they came to The Brit to take us on at our own game. We completely cancelled each other out all over the pitch, so much so that many people's man of the match was Deano. It seems to me that there are quite a few clubs now who think that the best way to cope with us is to 'fight fire with fire' and we clearly struggle to make much headway against those tactics and are much more suited to counter-attacking the more 'open' style of play. Villa's manager all but admitted that he sent his team out to combat our style and to give as good as they got and he was clearly delighted with his players and was happy with the point. I think we should probably take it as a compliment that clubs pay us the respect of admitting that they have to adapt their game to cope with our strengths but it does mean that it makes it harder for us to create too many openings. Our own fans are slating the team on here for their 'boring' performance at Villa with no acknowledgement of the fact that Villa also set out to 'kill' the game (and they were at home). We have already had both Wenger and Mancini declaring that a point at Stoke is a good result and I really do think that teams are giving us far more respect for our strengths now and it's making it harder for us as they accept that they have to combat us. That said, we have made our best start EVER in the top division despite a very tough opening set of fixtures and have kept 8 clean sheets in the process. We are unbeaten at home and have the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal (at the Brit) and Villa, West Ham and Wigan all declaring their delight at getting a point off us on their own grounds. It does amuse me to constantly read about how we should deal with the terrible crisis we are going through and who we need to spend a fortune on to put matters right. I cannot, for one second, imagine just how miserable this board would be if we were actually doing badly.

We are by far the least entertaining team to EVER be in the premiership by a country mile and after spend 100 million or whatever it is very very embarrassing Think you'll find it's 100 billion. 100 million was last week. ;D ;D ;D

Well said that man, this just isn't too clear to fans who don't know much about football but want a circus performance for thier money.

I think it's fair to say that we are amongst a clutch of teams who are in the middle of the table because they are strong in some respects, but still have a significant weakness that prevents them from pressing on. Liverpool are a one man team, Fulham is a retirement club for players who don't fancy tough games, Swansea's defence is physically weak and so on. We are strong in that we have a formidable defence that is incredibly difficult to penetrate, with a very strong spine. However, we are unable to break down well organised teams and seldom look like scoring apart without nicking one from a set piece.
Sunderland came to Stoke with a defence well organised by O'Neill and a squad drilled in killing off games and we didn't have a goal in us. Lambert is a manager who organises teams well and he, too, snuffed out all possible attacking threat on Saturday, assisted by the selection of Whitehead.

It touches on an issue that I think is particularly prevalent at the moment and that is the lack of quality attacking players in this league. United aside the standard of attacking play has been dreadful from pretty much every side in the division. Even Arsenal, who over the past decade or so have always been renowned for creativity and entertaining forward are absolutely woeful in the final third. Pace is non-existant in most teams and the ability to be clinical in the final third seems to be confined to just one or two teams. Disappointing to say the least. Bring back Ronaldo ;D

Did Durham not recognise the irony of him commenting on the supposed most boring football team?
I'd ask him to change that record but he's only got the one fucker....
Stoke on one side and Arsenal on the other.
He's a great cure for insomnia though, they should move his show to about 10 o' clock and everyone would be fast asleep by quarter past.

There seems to be an awful lot of people confusing being boring with being shit. Saying a team like Blackpool were more boring because they got relegated is a total failure of logic, or unblinkingly blind defense of Pulisball. Saying that man utd games arent always scintillating completely misses the point - all teams have bad games where they dont play as well as they can and produce fairly rubbish games. The difference is that our current approach means that our best performance would be utterly predictable and boring.
