Don't know if anyone mentioned it yesterday, but the Sentinel update said there's no tear and he has a chance of being ready for the weekend. Can't see Mama not starting though?
STOKE CITY 4PM UPDATE: AMEOBI READY FOR BRISTOL CLASH?

Shola Ameobi could be fit for Stoke's crunch promotion clash with Bristol City.
It had been thought a hamstring injury picked up during last week's win at Coventry would sideline the loan striker.
But a scan ?revealed that Ameobi has not suffered a tear, and therefore has a chance of making Tony Pulis's squad for the weekend.
However, the news is not so good for skipper Andy Griffin, who could be out for the rest of the season.
Stoke's assistant-manager Dave Kemp said: "Andy has got some sort of tear in the hamstring, but Shola's injury is not quite as bad as we first thought. We will have to see how he is later in the week."

Surely Shola will be on the bench even if he is risked? Personally, I'd let him rest it for another week, as we will probably have both Cresswell and Bothroyd in reserve in any event.
For all Mama's well documented deficiencies as a striker, Fuller enjoys playing with, and, most crucially, is most effective when he partners, the big Malian.

I can see him being put on the bench and if so bring him on with 20 minutes to play depending on how the game is goin. But mama was brilliant when he came on against coventry along with all of the other subs who made an apperance.

Personally I'd send him back to Newcastle and recoup 300K.

I dont think he is going to have enough time at stoke to show us what he can do.We made a really big gamble on him and it is turning out to be a bad one.We should of got him in the january window and then he would of had more time to adapt to the squad.

I wonder how much that would have cost us?

I agree, we should go back to first principles and stick with Mama and Ric with Both to mix it

With Mama in, the team at least knows what it's doing, we have a system to play to and one that has been highly successful on the whole despite Mama's small goal tally.
RAF, although it is costing us a lot of money for shola, i'd be tempted to keep him just in case we end up in the play offs. Besides the option of returning him and getting money back might not be there; I understand the majority of the expenditure was on his loan fee, once we have spent that the wages probably seem small in comparisson and it would be false economy to send him back now.

Ameobi on the bench would be good.
We need to pull every lever in the 'mind games' department. If Ric and Mama run their defence ragged for 75 minutes, we need Bristol to know we have a premiership striker waiting in the wings. No let up, no respite.
I still think he could have a vital part to play.

I fucking hope not.
The further away from the first team that lump is, the better chance we have.

"premiership striker"
Andy Campbell was once a Premiership Striker, as was Daniel Nardiello.
He's wank! Face it.

Put Zakuani back in the squad, with Griff out and leave that unfit clumsy lump in the stands. Mama and Ric have got us where we are. They should start the last 3 games.

As a critic of Mama for much of the season, I have to swallow my bullshit I say about him. He simply HAS to start alongside Riccy, even if Ameobi is passed fit. I know the cash was substantial in what we payed for him, but if he plays over Sidders than that gamble will be for nothing.
Time to stick him on the bench as Riccy and Mama are by far our best partnership.

Shola has been,well,not good.
Gelen Rodents comments about him needing a month to get fit have stuck in my mind (along with that photo of Scarlet Johanson....).
on the bench here on along with the other good but injured/unfit players who havent done it such as Diao.
If we dont go up & we sign Shola we should in principle see a much better player next season
if we do go up I think we need better anyway

I'm not so sure that Ameobi would be in our budget for next season if we didn't go up
but do agree that if we did, we would need better anyway

i think that it's great news that Ameobi may be fit . i'd still go with Mama and Fuller to start but would feel alot more confident that we have a decent player in shola ready to come on .

Agreed, a player like Ameobi in reserve would be excellent for any team in this league. Granted he hasnt shown alot since joining but he is a good player and an excellent finisher so he could have a big part to play on saturday
