Just cottoned on here it would reduce our England Euro places from 7 to 6 to squeeze in a bunch of teams from the footy wilderness. So ignore my good idea post!!!!
Indeed Rob Un grand Bellend

If it did go ahead, I wonder if the Prem would think outside the box and give the 6th place to the winners of an end of season playoff (semis and final) between teams finishing 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th in the Prem. That would mean about two thirds of the Prem would spend most of the season in with at least a chance of a Champion's League Place.

Platini probably had the idea to scrap it when he realised that some managers weren't taking it seriously.

it just waters down the champions league even further though, with more games of less quality. Basically the league phase will become even more boring and pedestrian than it is already and the level of interest will only rise by March time and the knock-out phases

I hate these manufactured playoffs where the team finishing, say 9th, may have been 10 points behind the team finishing 6th but still gets a chance of success that their playing record does not entitle them to. If your results over 42/46 games are not good enough to get you in the 6, then tough. You might just as well make the teams finishing 2nd to 9th play off for ALL 6 places. If it's not done on TOTAL merit, then it's false and nothing to do with football, just finance and you know what people on here think of such things!

They already do that here in Holland for the Europa league places....good idea as it keeps teams going right to the end of the season and something to play for ( those that arent cut adrift at the bottom that is`)

I thought the playoffs which got us into what is now the Championship were great. We had an amazing semi final second leg at Ninian Park and a great day out at the Mil Stad - much more fun than giving the place to the third placed team.

To make it seem fairer and not add too many extra matches, how about a one-leg semi-final where the 6th and 7th placed teams play at home?

A better idea would be to get rid of the Champions' League and get rid of the vast majority of the money associated with it, allow only the winners of each European League to enter and then bring back the Cup Winners' Cup.

For once, I think this is actually a good idea.
However, if England get six places I'd like to see:-
Automatic qualification for the top 4
Positions 5th-8th play-off for another place..
FA Cup winners get the final place.

FA Cup winners get the final place. I think I'd prefer that to my suggestion. I've always thought that the best way to revitalise the FA Cup would be to give the winners a Champions League place. And the playoffs would still go down to 8th place so a majority of clubs would have something to play for until quite late in the season - in most of our seasons since promotion we'd have been looking hopefully at 8th place until mid April at least.

If the revenue was dished out equally then it would be a better option and players could put champions league experience on their CV to boot.

It would be better in many ways, imagine if we had qualified for this set-up instead and with a few good draws and solid results had been able to force our way through to a major stage. Cup football is a lottery, and the champions league is a lottery that pays highly even without going all the way.
Currently teams from some nations have no hope at all of a sizeable payday from europe no matter what they do. Expanding the competition could give those teams a small slither of hope.

The Europa League's current format is a bloated mess of epic proportion. Get rid. Platini is a massive French cock, but this tournament needs dispatching.

Isn't the modern Champions League format pretty much designed to make sure it's not a lottery, and that most of the big teams go through without too much fuss? You need a secondary competition for teams who have no hope of winning the big one. Would Fulham get to a Champions League final? Bring back the CWC!

Top 4 Champions League, same as it is with no qualification round for 4th place.
FA Cup winners.
League Cup winners.
If any of top 4 win cup competitions then that would bring in 5/6 th place in premiership.
There's your 6 places.

They should bring back an 'It's a Knockout' competition for 6th to 9th place and the winners go into the Champions League. Is Stuart Hall still alive?
