Can anyone explain why they are so small now?
saw an arsenal player with them and they just looked like a piece of plastic shoved in his sock.

They are small because tackling is illegal.

No matter how big they are, Stoke's dirty, malicious players break through them every week. The bastards.

cannot understand it! i still have ones with ankle protection and so do all the lads in my under 11s team, purely because it gives them more safety. may as well roll up a bloody newspaper and put it down your sock with some the pathetic things on show now.

Exactly mate, admittadley i dont play much now but I still have my ankle protected ones that strap around near the ankle and again at the top, you put them on like a sock etc. I've clashed shins and felt nothing at all where as these players clash shins and they're out for a month!

Not only do players tend to wear shinpads more suited to dwarfs, but they wear them so far up there legs that it doesn't actually cover the shinbone!
Ankle protectors are a massive no-no by the way

Ankle protectors are a massive no-no by the wayPlease explain??? If you break your ankle and it's stuck in a "ankle protector" then 1) there's no immediate way to assess the injury and 2) it's a nightmare for the paramedics to get off It's all down to opinions though. I don't personally think they offer people much benefit at all and having seen serious ankle injuries myself I think they can just complicate the matter.

Everyone I know who has broke their ankle has walked off the pitch, some aided, some not.
I find that with mine they protect just above the ankle anyway, pretty pointless but meh.
