The lad wants one for christmas,he has PS3&PS2 and a WII set up in his room so its not really for gaming although he does play some on-line games but it would mainly be used to surf the net and youtube along with his home work(my maths on line) and some other minor school stuff.
2 reasons i want a cheap one are 1) i don't think he'll use it much at all (although he does use my pc a bit) and 2) he's a bit of a clumsy sod and is forever dropping things, remote controls and PS controllers.
Any recommendations? I have thought about an IPAD but think he won't use it enough for the price.

Really aren't all that savvi on these things to be honest someone mentioned a Kindle wildfire but on looking into it,it doesn't have a flash so most youtube clips won't work.

As I wanted something cheap, I bought an A1 refurbished laptop in March and it's been perfect - no problems whatsoever. Runs like a dream. Came in the original box with all packaging. You couldn't tell it had been opened. www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/st/refurbished-laptops

It's decent enough if you're just doing a bit of web browsing and general computer activity. Whilst that Packard Bell looks decent, I would never suggest buying technology of that price off ebay. Heard far too many horror stories to even consider it.

Yep just had a proper look and you're quite right mate. I got an i3, 500gb, 13 inch laptop for a touch over £200 but maybe it was just a one off! I can also vouch for Saino's great customer service.

www.ebuyer.com/411060-zoostorm-laptop-7873-9041Can anyone tell me if this is any good? Just want it for a general purpose laptop, internet browsing, youtube, word documents etc. I know the 12GB RAM is rather extreme but is this good or bad (i.e. is it too much and will it mess up the functionality?) Cheers

You can never have too much ram imo. i3 is really good bang per buck processor. Looks fine to me. Its the right price point and will do everything you want with ease. Only thing you need to consider is it comes with no operating system which will be additional cost. Make sure you go for a 64bit OS to take advantage of all the ram. If you buy from Ebuyer go via Quidco to get some cash back Regards an OS you get an upgrade to Windows 8 from here for £15 even if you dont have a legit version of W7. www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-GB

Thanks zigazaga, I'm sure I read somewhere about Laptops not performing as well if they have an imbalance on the two RAM slots? i.e. it's better to have 2GB and 2GB than 2GB and 4GB?
Is that right or not? Presumably the 12GB would be set up as 8GB and 4GB...Would I be better off just looking for a 4GB total RAM?

You are correct. To get 12GB there must be both an 8gb and 4gb DIMM which means it wont operate in dual channel mode as the memory modules don't match. But I would not worry about it. The fact you have a massive amount of ram will compensate for this. To me this seems a very good deal as the i3 3110M processor was only released a few months ago.
