what a silly comment that is, we have two wingers and two strikers not compatible we had pennant best delivery in club, but Tony holds a grudge we have Ethers on the left clearly back in some sort of form we have owen and crouch up front to throw on.... didnt they play for england together

Personally I'd go for:
Begovic Cameron Huth Shawcross Wilko Whelan Adam N'Zonzi Jerome Jones Etherington
I like Crouch but I think Jones is better at playing as a lone striker. Jerome and Etherington are needed because we need pace in wide areas. That's a similar team to the one we played away against Valencia which was for me one of our best performances of last season.

We have to try something different anyway otherwise I really think instead of drawing and winning games, we'll be drawing and losing games which will drag us into a relegation battle. Football is as bland and boring as the second half of last season.

Owen is injured today and hasn't played a full game for over a year, so not such a silly comment hey ???

This is how I want the line-up to look next week:
--------------Begovic---------------- -Wilkinson--Huth----Shawcross--Upson- Kightly----Adam----N'Zonzi---Etherington ----------Jones----Owen----------------
You could play N'Zonzi and Adam in a "diamond" as well. I reckon it would work to be honest with you.
Tin hat ready though.

really don't understand this 4.5.1/4.3.3 shit, 4.4.2 works and if we are gonna change it go 3.5.2 as we dont have a decent fullback at the club.

I know Adams not a defender but give me him ahead of Whitehead every time.

However you simply cannot play Crouch in a 4-4-1-1, we've been dog shit (as a whole) going forward since we signed him, nothing to do with the player mind but due to the manager believing that it could work. A forward line with Crouch in it will ONLY work as a 4-4-2 and the OP is absolutely correct we need to switch to 4-4-2 pronto. Where the OP is wrong, is in suggesting that Adam would work in a 4-4-2 - he won't, he'll always need to be in a midfield three ... Adam and Crouch can't operate in the same starting XI, unless you go 3-5-2 and that ain't ever going to happen in a Tony Pulis team.

Agree with a lot of what you say Paul especially about how we have looked shite going forward since we signed Crouch, just can't understand how Pulis can keep sticking with this system when quite clearly it isn't working? It's baffling beyond belief and like i've said on another thread i've never known any other manager who is unwilling to change things around when results and goals just aren't coming. One thing i don't agree with is your comment on Adam not working in a midfield two,i reckon alongside Nzonzi he could but it would mean a drastic change in style.

Why go over formations and teams we should be playing? What's the point. That's what football discussion boards and forums are about. Discussing games, players, transfers, tactics and formations etc... If you feel its pointless why create an account and come on here? Bizarre post.

I've said this numerous times, but Crouch and Jerome would make a very effective pairing in a proper front two. We'll never play 4-4-2 though.

I would love us go 442 as well! We don't create and score enough goals, as simple as that! I would also love us to play more like the old Stoke! Think we sink too deep too easily! I would like a more "at them" approach like in our first season. I also feel it's time for KJ again, as Crouchie seems to be out of form and JW doesn't score goals! We were far more dangerous after the introduction of KJ today.

It's pointless trying it when it's blatantly obvious that it won't work. Adam can't defend and doesn't track his man. The only way for him to excel is to play a three man midfield I reckon we should try Begovic at LB just on the basis that "we could try it out first". If it's a failure, which it obviously would be, we never do it again and we're back to square one Mental

Funny how things work out, people want the 4-4-2 ditching in favor of a more lucrative 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 depending how and who you ask and now were desperate to get back to 4-4-2.
I'm not supporting any formation, All's I want is a team with flying wingers that's going to get wins. boring football or not; walking away from any ground with a grin after 3 points is what football is all about for me.
The odd thing for me is that the players (judging by Walters and Crouch on goals on Sunday) seem to think the manager is more positive and they seem to enjoy/ want to play that way (as well as the fans so to speak). However for whatever reason its not working so we dust ourselves down and go for the same setup we had during the fa cup run that made us so brilliant to watch imo.

Bego
Cameron Shawcross Huth Wilko
Whelan N'zonzi Adam
Jerome Crouch Ethers
I like that side, it's got more pace, more presence and we could support Crouch and still protect the full backs.
