Why are we trying to make Hanley into all the other chav infested dumps, we have chance to introduce something a bit different shops wise, total new slate, but nah fuck it lets do what everyone else has done.

Jesus the likely list for Sity Sentral is depressing, total Nowheresville. And I bet many won't stay after their initial discount deals.
That'll be even more reasons to shop in Castle then

When that shopping centre is finished, the shops in the potteries centre will move across and leave that place half empty. The city is a shit hole.

I love stoke, it was the place where i was born, granted i never lived in the area past the age of 5 and i haven't got a potteries accent, i get good vibes whenever i go back but fuck me You people in the city deserve better than some kind of celebration over a nando's and a h & m opening, a token store in every city and most towns and a chicken seller. Disgraceful that the place has been left to rot by the powers that be, shameful

The Council, or whoever has the final say on it, should manage who they allow to take up space in there. I would be telling retailers that exist in Hanley, that they can relocate to CitySentral, but only for treble the rent that a newcomer could. They should have no issues filling it with totally new retailers. I personally think H&M and Nando's is a good thing, it finally brings us in to line with any other City Centre location; helps to bring us out of the pound-shop-dominated dark ages.

be nice to get something like the shops in the Corn Exchange in Leeds, but city councils don't really do 'independent retailers' any more, do they?

Stupid bloody name for a shopping centre anyway. Instead of spending money on a new shopping centre which Hanley doesnt need, they should be spending the money sorting out the other towns of our city which are dying on their arses.

Those of you that think that retail landlords in Stoke-on-Trent have the ability to pick and choose who they let properties out to, need to think again. The people of our city have amongst the lowest disposable income in the country, therefore, making money in a shop in Hanley is only feasible at the bottom of the market.
Decent brands like Nandos and H&M are only coming here because there is nowhere else to go, and as Sal has already said, they will be getting sweeteners such as rent free periods and capital contributions towards their shopfitting.
If we pick and choose who can and cannot come, then our council tax will be paying for empty shops instead of going on the things that matter like social care.
Our city was sold down the river years ago when the council ran the city for the benefit of the potbank owners. They stifled outside investment and kept Stoke in the dark age so that the potbanks could have a ready and cheap source of hard-working will poorly educated labour.
We should welcome companies like H&M, because if they can make their businesses work here, then other businesses will be encouraged to invest. (and I don't just retailers etc).

Where does the coach makers arms stand in all of this?

I'm guessing the high street, Potteries centre and Festival Park will be boarded up once this opens. All the proposed shops already exist in Hanley (where's John Lewis/Salfridges?) and no one will use the Odeon anymore. Been a while since Hanley had a cinema mind...

Where does the coach makers arms stand in all of this? It doesn't stand, this development will be built ontop of the Coachmakers, Birch Terrace, the old bus station and the run down 'Hanley Shopping Centre'. It stretches from Lichfield Street to Bucknall Rd lights. Coachmakers currently sits in the red section, they'll need to relocate.

Getting out of Stoke was the best thing I ever did. When I come back to visit family and friends its like stepping back in time. I'll always have a strong effection for my native city, its where my roots are and home to my family for generations. Stoke will always have a special place in my heart and my accent is still broad (only been moved away 4 years) but fuck may what a depressing , chav , shit hole
