How dare people incinerate that my local was rough....
The fact that the parademics used to park on the carpark outside most nights should have no bearing to this debate.

Knave of Clubs Chell Heath I wouldn't say 'hard' more 'dirty' I dated a girl from Cheall heath years ago and was in there one night when some Meir lads came in and smashed the place up and the locals didnt hang around, they ran off with no reistance and the few that didnt run got slapped silly The following week was pretty much the same story but this time it was a group of Abbey Hulton lads that did the damage, it was one Saturday night after Stoke had played away (cant remember where)

I seem to remember that The American down Waterloo Rd Cobridge was a very dodgey pub and some of the locals used to frequent The Freetown in Hanley And what about The Black Horse at the top of Black Horse Lane in Hanley..next to the 'one to one' club..?

So...anybody got some good, but true, stories from any of these places? In all fairness apart from the odd one (for top of the trent) they are all ok as long as you keep yourself to your self all pubs when i was growing up out side of Kidsgrove were considered rough,my local the Galley i thought it was a decent gaff and not much trouble apart from the odd scrap but that happens in every boozer in the land but it was folk from outside the area that thought it was rough and i imagine its the same the world over.

Certainly doesn't sit with my memory of the Knave and the Estate it served..if you had any sense you stayed well away from Chell Heath especially at night.

Any time of the day unless you were playing them on a Sunday morning then you had a pass till 1 o clock but were best out after that.

I think the word you are groping for is "insinuate" if you mean suggest? To "incinerate" would be to set fire to, which I suppose in retrospect would probably have been a good idea ;D

Black Horse was a bikers pub & the place next door was the 141 club, so called because it was number 141 Marsh Street.

You just don't like the truth, ask any so called 'hard' lad from Chell Heath that was there and they will tell you exaclty what I have. Its nothing be ashamed of, every one comes unstuck at some point. Doesnt matter if you beleieve me or not in all fairness, those that know , know. Those that don't know, weren't there, or live in a bubble

My parents owned the Clarendon (clock) in longton, 1976-79 before it became Hickorys. Rough as fuck no landlord lasted more than 6 months. My old man Bert found his own way of policing it. The infamous landlady of The Shamrock & Owd Hut for a few years (and Butchers Arms,Forsbrook) was my God Parent The Clock was a favourite of my Uncle for a few years, around the same time as The Bridge too. So many Pubs no longer around.

I was about 20-21 at the time, so you do the maths. Got no reason to lie pal, I did my basic training with a good mate of mine from Chell Heath who wasn't there but knows all about it because his older brother who was a gentle giant and wasn't the trouble making type got glassed. Its always the innocent ones that get hurt

I've been drinking in there since it re-opened in 94(around about the time you're talking about) and i know for a fact that this never happened. What was your army mate called because i was in the army myself and i probably know him, although none of my army mates were remfs.

As I have said it doesn't matter if you believe me or not, those that were there know its a fact and that it happened The lad I did basic training with was Alan Wilstshaw and his older brother who got glassed was called Jase , big lad and into his bikes and bike rallys and that kind of thing. Intimidating to look at but not a fighter and certainly didn't deserve some cunts glass in the face

As far as the Meir lads go it was drugs related and at the time I assumed the same with regards to the Abbey lads but I can't say for sure. Maybe the local , main 'hard men' weren't in , maybe thats why they faced little resistance. It wasnt a random attack neither, those targted in the main seemed to know the attackers and seemed to be expecting the trouble, people werent picked out at random (with the exception of the gentle giant) so maybe there was more to what went on than meets the eye. And come on I'm not going name the bird on here am I, for all I know her or her brothers might post on here. I've left them and that chapter of my life well n truely in the past ;D
