Certainly looks that way. As an orthodox full back, surely he can't be worse than Wilson in the role can he? I thought Wilson had a superb game v Arsenal......... ...........& then was appalling v Swindon 1 day we will sign an actual left back, one day.... ATM Wilson is ok. First things first - an actual quality right back...

PUBLISHED 22:43 10th August 2012 Dynamo Kiev star set to sign season-long loan
He's an experienced player with a great left foot" Tony Pulis TONY PULIS has revealed that Stoke City have made a move to sign the Dynamo Kiev full-back Goran Popov on a season-long loan deal.
City expect to finalise the agreement on Monday before the 27-year-old Macedonian international heads off to join up with his national squad.
Pulis has been a big admirer of Popov since he performed so well against the Potters in last season’s Europa League Group Stage and the threat he posed pushing forward led to Kiev’s late equaliser in the game at the Lobanovsky Stadium.
“Goran really impressed me last season,” said City’s manager. “He’s an experienced player for his age and he has a great left foot on him.
“Naturally gifted left-sided players are like gold-dust, so he will give us strength in depth down that left hand side which can only improve us.”
He added: “We had him watched when he played in the Europa League against Feyenoord the other night and he did exceptionally well in that game.
“Goran wants to play in the Premier League and he was impressed with us when we played the two games against them in the Europa League.
“It’s a season-long loan, so we have got a good opportunity to see how he adjusts to English football before we make a commitment to signing him.”
Popov, who has won 41 caps for Macedonia, joined Kiev in the summer of 2010 on a five-year contract after spells in Russian, Greek and Dutch football.
Pulis also had more encouraging news of defender Robert Huth concerning his recovery from a bout of viral meningitis which confined him to hospital this week.
The German international has made good enough progress to return home and is expected to make a return to light training some time in the next few days.
“It’s a massive bonus that he has recovered so well because we were really concerned that it was the serious strain at one point,” commented Pulis.
“He’s a bit weak at the moment, so it’s too early to say when he will be back. We’ll have to take it one step at a time, but he’s a tough character and I know he won’t want to miss out on the start of the season if that is at all possible.”
The article from the official site for posterity! ;D

now official ALBION have completed a beat-the-deadline deal for Macedonia international Goran Popov. The Dynamo Kiev left-back has joined on a season-long loan, with a view to a permanent deal, after being granted a work permit this afternoon. The 27-year-old has passed a Hawthorns medical and will wear the No.4 shirt but won’t be eligible for tomorrow’s clash with Everton (ko 3pm) more here www.fansonline.net/westbromwichalbion/mb/view.php?id=81248

Pulis must have originally thought he was a centre back playing at left back then realised he was an actual fullback.

Obviously Pulis got him over here, saw him in training, reconsidered, and used the work permit as an excuse to pull the plug on the deal. Yes, he was a left back, yes, we are in need of a left back, however, the odds are, he was shite, and that's why we pulled out. Quit yer bitching. ;D

What another shambles. Either we have been sold a line about a work permit (masking something else amiss) or (like in the case of Ba) we seem to fuck everything up in-house. Really annoyed with this news, was pleased with Adam signing, but this has done my head in and taken the shine of it tbh

Do any of you know the details of our enquiry, offer, the players demands? If not think outside of the box. It's dead easy to slag people off.

Brazil have a tight wage structure so I don't expect a "blown out of the water" excuse.
I think the truth is, as many others have already suggested, that this lad was a left footed left back who likes to get forward and not a CB who could cover the left when needed.
TP does not like fullbacks.

When we were supposedly signing him, someone put a Popov highlight reel on here and he looked pretty good to me, not to say VERY good.
