Their new transfer scheme is great. Selling 'star players' for more than their worth and replacing them with better, cheaper, younger players from the continent is definitely working. Shame we don't have the scouting system / management to have the balls to adopt something similar, plus it would help if we'd had the players to make useful profit on too...

That's the best bit of football writing I've read in a long long time.
And more worryingly, the contrast with stoke could not be more stark :-(

Agreed. And anyone who's worked in business would probably agree. Maybe the problem is that football clubs nearly always appoint ex-players as managers instead of selecting people who are good business managers* and making sure they have people around them who know the game. (I suspect if you replaced TP with someone who was a good business manager this is exactly what we'd have.)
* Yes, I know, there are plenty of crap managers in the business world. The trick is find one who isn't crap!

I don't think it's a coincidence that Arsenal are one of the only clubs that turns a profit and Arsene Wenger has a degree in Economics.

Our policy of buting high and leaving no residual value has to change.
The club long term can not sustain the transfer model of the last five or so years.
Problem is that rough diamonds need polishing. I dont think you can do that with a cap and some sweat.

Read a similar article about Stoke that put us in a good light. Although the football ain't pretty, if you look at the individual player stats, apparently a number of them tick a lot of boxes. So whilst we aren't selling, we are getting a lot of value from cheaper players (apparently). Personally think this is bollocks and would just like to see some football being played, and not caring that 75.4% of Ryan's long cross field passes complete. What a load of shit.
