One of the most positive elements of the new season has been the emergence of Michael Kightly. Against Reading, he tallied the only Stoke goal of the season. Playing against Arsenal, he was far from intimidated, moving forward on several occasions to attempt crosses or a shot at goal. Both his mobility and offensive drive are going to make our midfield extremely strong.

Most of the other players need to take a look at him and show the desire that he has towards the game! At least he wants to attack and make a name for himself by getting his goals and having a run at the defenders.

Didn't think he did much yesterday to be honest! I'm still very open on the lad, my slight worry is he's Walters with pace! But I'll judge him after a dozen games or so

He seemed to be the most likely to make something happen. Mainly due to him appearing to be the only one aware that his team mates were in the stripes. I think he'll be a good signing, and finally some competition on the wing!

But I'll judge him after a dozen games or so I think that is a bit harsh Clyde mate. He looked the only player that wanted to create something yesterday. He shows great spirit, always track back and he's full of energy - something we're not too spoilt with at the moment. But he did look a lot better against Reading, I'll give you that. But that was against an "easier" opposition and he was playing on the right - where he prefers to play.

Don't get me wrong mate not slating the lad, I just didnt think he did much yesterday, thought when he got the ball he spent too much of the time head down charging on instead of looking up, it could well have been that if he looked up he had no options! His effort was superb, can't knock that, I'm not convinced he's left winger, looked far better at reading on the right. but it's only his 2nd game, the lad needs time settle, I still get the feeling he's over doing it a touch, but that's hardly a bad thing, after 10-12 games we will get a clearer view on him imo

I said how original about your mind numbingly Tedious start to your post, what's it got to do with Carroll? I also said he ok but better suited in the right, or did you not get that far into my post before jumping the gun.

Hey dude, take a look at 85%+ of the posts on this mb, you'll find them mind numbing and tedious. Serious question - who exactly do you expect to sign this week, this year / this decade at Stoke? After you twats have got your wish and hounded TP out, who would you like / expect to replace him?

Judging by the after-match comments yesterday, it looks like Etherington will be straight back into the side on the left as soon as possible, with Pennant dropped.

I wouldn't be too unhappy with Kightly tried behind Crouch.

That's 2 games now he has popped up on the edge of the D for an opportunity. Hope his form continues, so far very good.

Judging by the after-match comments yesterday, it looks like Etherington will be straight back into the side on the left as soon as possible, with Pennant dropped. Kightly looked keen to attack and not afraid to have a shot - a bit like Etherington of 2 seasons ago. Maybe once we get Matty back to full fitness they will inspire / challenge each other to work the wings. Pennant was disappointing yesterday, especially in that special number 7 shirt! I would have liked Pennant and Kightly to have swapped wings a couple of times during the game to try and unsettle the Arsenal defence. In fact if all 3 wingers are interchangeable this could give us lots of options. Pennant didn't look that match sharp, was getting very frustrated as he tried the same tricks and most of the time they came to nothing. I feel he would benefit from a run out v Swindon tomorrow

The through ball was class
Just deleted about the cross as it may have been Wilson after Kights cross was cleared

Now OP's please read this carefully...
If that ball had gone through to a fit Michael Owen, he would have opened his shoulders and tucked it in to the bottom right hand corner.....
