give that to the squad and let them have a read

It's the glass half empty assessment of our position, that quite a few on here have echoed. A betting site tipping us for the drop? Last time that happened it did us a power of good. Make sure TP reads it, someone!

Still lots of surgery required to the squad and first eleven, but surely even non-stoke fans know that our main business wont be done until the last day of August. People should judge our relegation prospects then really.

A perfectly balanced and logical assessment. But....it's a betting man's view as much as anything, written from the perspective of where the value is.

Perfect "backs to the wall" material for Pulis. Will be printed and pinned to the dressing room wall for the season I should think.

FFS, how are we a sinking ship? We've consistently performed at the same level from day 1, mid 40 point range, and a FA Cup run and European venture to boot.
Despite not so much money being thrown around this time, I think we've improved our squad again.
A quality back up winger, whoever you chose to start with Woodgate out, Cameron in - I have a gut feeling this guy is gonna be perfect for us. A fit Palacios, and a decent prospect in Ness. I'm sure add to this there will be at least one more signing before the deadline is out. I guess 1 striker out, 1 in.

That's pretty much the only betting company that has good odds on us going down...
One or two even have us in the top 10!

If we do get off to a poor start, Pulis is a master of back to the wall, rugged football, the kind that helped us stay up in the first premier league season with players of a lesser ability.
Having said that, I think we're in for a cracking season.

The perfect antidote to the 'we should be as big as Newcastle United and Everton' and 'golden era of opportunity' crap I keep seeing on here lately.

What was that about people thinking we'll do well?
The squad is in horrendous shape, a few injuries and we are in trouble.

I think it's a reasonably fair assessment although I do feel we'll be ok because there will be at least 3 teams worse than us at "toughing it out".
It's going to be a tough season given our post Christmas form and given the lack of additions and a tough start to the campaign we will need to pull together.
As I've said before, I'm not convinced many will be satisfied with that though after four seasons at this level.

I've never understood the term 'good value' in the betting world.
Whether a bet is 1000:1 or 1:1000, it isn't good value if it doesn't come off.
Marking Stoke at 7:1 and saying it's 'good value' only means that the chances are (about 7:1 actually!) that you'll be throwing your money away.
Bullshit article from a bullshit columnist.

Agree with everything he said there Yeah - I can't really disagree with anything they said in the whole relegation preview. Swansea, Norwich and West Brom look very likely contenders. As for us being well and truly in the thick of it......couldn't rule it out. I still don't see us dropping, though. I think Coatesy would reach for the wallet in January if the prospect was real. Suppose you'd have to, as normal, chuck Wigan in the mix too.

I think if Tone actually gets in that goal-scoring striker though, it shouldn't be too bad. with Palacios and Cameron in the centre we should be so much better. Equally with Popov at LB, and Kightly up the wing for something fresh. The biggest problem we have now is scoring goals. But hopefully, hopefully, we'll have that sorted before the 31st

I love the pass it to Tony and back to the wall posts.
Sad that after all the money etc... thrown at Pulis we still feel we are underdogs.

Kightly will add to what we got but on the whole we've got fuck all to create with. I've an open mind to Cameron, Popov & Ness but people are talking out their arse if they can predict how well they'll do, no one has seen them play. Hopefully Palacios has recovered fro whatever was supposedly keeping him out the team last term.

Villa look to be in big trouble to me and I would add them to the Swanseas and Wigans at the bottom of the table. West Brazil also look a weaker proposition without Woy at the helm. The promoted teams could do anything from mid-table to relegated by Christmas. QPR and Norwich will struggle again.
Sunderland and Liverpool will be interesting to watch next season. Sunderland went on a worse run of form than the one that got Bruce the sack!
Not only do I think there are 3 clubs weaker than us, I think there are 9 or 10 clubs weaker.

Another dunderhead not realising that our plan is to get points on the board before Christmas and then look to the FA Cup for glory.
All will be well next season, in fact we are in a strong position to celebrate our 150th anniversary with our best ever season.
