Good pundit.
Don't blame him for leaving. More than once I've seen Hansen take the piss out of him for actually having done his research. Seeing pricks like him and Shearer collect tens of thousands for doing four fifths of fuck all while you actually try and take some pride in your work must be murderously galling.
That said, if he's off to ITV I don't know what he's expecting to find different there. Sitting about playing straight man while Chiles farts around for a dodgy quip and Roy Keane shuffles in his straitjacket.
The problem with terrestrial football coverage is that they don't give a shit about actual football fans. They're desperate to attract the floating voter who watches once in a blue moon because Corrie isn't on. So we get stuck with inane, state-the-obvious bullshit instead of anything resembling insight.

That's a real pity, his column on the Beeb website was normally a good read. Provided a lot more insight than either of the two Alans and you could tell he had a more in depth knowledge than both of them put together.

Sky probably poached him with 5 times what he was earning at the Beeb. No wonder my Sky subscriptions gone up

Great, so the one pundit worth listening to on Match of the Day has now gone. Looking forward to a year of mindless babble.

Spot on Rob. The 2 Alan's have become a complete borefest to listen to. Lawrenson is still bareable as he at least comes up with the odd funny bit. Dixon did at least put some homework in and try to provide some insight.
Not sure why the BeeB continue with the current format because most football fans are bored of their cliched inaninities

Otherwise I agree though.

Lee Dixon is one of the better pundits, I agree. But that's a bit like saying Mengele was less cruel than Eichmann. It's a relative assessment only, not an absolute one, and so does not necessarily say a great deal.
I do not think pundits - either as sidekicks to the commentator, or in the studio - add anything. But one imagines they do so very expensively.
The ITV Panel for the World Cup in 74 and 78 (when there was a need for a bit of ballast to compensate for the fact that England failed to qualify) has a lot to answer for. They added nothing either, but at least it kicked off a bit in the studio when Pat Crerand, Brian Clough, Malcolm Allison, Jack Charlton, etc got together.

He tells you everything you already know, gives you no new information. "if that guy shoots and the ball, it goes in the back of the net, then that's going to be a goal" cheers Mark.

What is mind numbing is that the bell end that is Lineker is seen as a "star" in the BBCs eyes and paid £2M a year.

Shame as at least he could provide some defensive analysis. MOTD needs a good shake up - far too cosy. Gary Neville has set the bar much higher for punditry and the Beeb ought take notice.

Hands down by far the best pundit on the box at the min, Gay Neville has really suprised me, his insight into the game is second to none.
