They moved the canal to accommodate the A500 I think (in 1977 when it was opened), then moved it again with the new underpass At a guess the A500 goes from the dark buildings just above the circular thing (back end of Butler Street?), which I presume were knocked down, through the circle past the ground, then followed the brook (as it does now) before going over the canal at the bottom of the pic Be intersting to superimpose now over the top - wheres Google Earth! They are gasometers behind the butler street stand mate.

Better than nowt mate.
I'm guessing with google earth you can angle the picture like the old one.
Not having a laptop is a pain as attachments are bloody awkward on an iPad, otherwise I would try it myself.

Can't imagine the Vic without a proper Boothen End. Where do you think The Lads stood?

it's changed so much it is really hard to follow where on the new pic is on the old pic. i keep losing track... it looks like a completely different place apart from a few rows of houses and tiny landmarks which are still there. loads more trees too.

All the basic geography is still there (inc Whieldon Rd, Boothen Rd etc, train and canal - the part I though was the football pitches is a housing estate now, the pitches are just beyind that where I thought the Brit was (is it Kemble Drive that leads onto the pitches in Mount Pleasant?)
Fascinating stuff if you like that sort of thing!

I think you can gauge it quite nicely from your side by side pictures.

Same here Suffolk. I saw Be Bop Deluxe at the Victoria Hall, I'm pleased to say that the shots of the old ground were even before my time though!

Would be good to see a pic with the Victiria Ground just before it was pulled down, don't you think?

I like the little roof on the stoke end Yeah, it explains the attached screen shot I took from a 1934 Pathe newsreel that did the rounds on here a while back.

Anyone know what the polo building on there is? Fenton mint works. I am going to damn you with faint praise. One of the funniest comments I've ever seen on this Board. (Reminds me, although only peripherally, of the description of the town of Llantrisant - "The Hole with the Mint"). A fabulous photo. Top marks, Kenilworth.
