I have several times now from commentators and critics that Rooney wasn't match fit
Why not?
I wasn't aware that he has been injured Is it because he missed 2 games for suspension So does that mean all substitutes who didn't play in those 2 games are also unfit Surely missing those games would he would be fresh???

Because he got himself stupidly sent off in a qualifier and yaps about being proud to play for England
Same as that other moron, Gazza but some still think he's some kind of hero as well
Bless the simpletons X

Another very, very disappointing tournemnt from Rooney - he just doesn't deliver for England and should have been subbed.

The original poster makes a good point. Rooney's sending off and suspension meant that he had to miss the first two games of the tournament. It should not have meant that he looked half the player we see playing for Man Utd when he finally started the Sweden game. If Rooney could be expected to be only half fit by the time of the Sweden game then half the squad could be expected to be half fit. But I bet if players like Baines or Defoe had got on the pitch in either the Sweden or Italy games they'd have looked fine and run around like Duracell bunnies. For whatever reason, Rooney seems to have lost far more fitness (physical fitness not just match fitness) than he should have done during the period between the end of the season and the Sweden game. What concerns me most is that he seems to have managed to conceal this from Roy Hodgson and the England coaching staff.

He's just another in a long list of players that play well for their club but shite for their country ala Lampard Milner Young etc

I've been saying this too. He only missed a couple of matches, which if anything should leave you more rested than everybody else. But he looked like he hadn't kicked a ball for a year.

Surely if there had been concerns about his fitness then it would have been wise to give him more game time in the warmup matches? I was generally surprised at how out on their feet most of the England players looked after 30 mins or so. Was it down to the travelling from Poland? Or the rigours of the premier league? Will we see new calls for a winter break?

He looked chubby again in my humble opinion and from the second he was put through by Gerrard against Ukraine, he was clearly miles off where his fitness levels should have been at.
He looked like he was running in quick sand.

Gerrard getting cramp on 70 minutes would indicate a general fitness issue.

If messi had been out for a few weeks through suspension would he of been lacking sharpness as badly as rooney. Would if fuck, simple explanation is rooney has no where near the ability the media would have up believe.
