Tone reckons its an "aard" first fixture. He also states they are very good side who play good football. Typical bloody Pulis. Most managers would come out with "Reading? Pissing Reading, we'll piss that! Pre-season training is of lads, we can relax. We're much better than them and as the history of football shows, every games the same so there's no reason to prepare and anyone suggesting any caution is a Dave Kemp rimming bastard."

Great first home game of the season.
Great Boxing and New Years day fixtures.
Great away game for last game of season, sunny Southampton for relegation decider.
Roll on August!

We won't be bookies favourites to win any individual game until the 8th game of the season being Swansea at home.
5 of the first 7 are Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United so we won't start as favourites in any of those and the 2 'easier' games are Reading and Wigan but being away as they are we will start 2nd favourites in those too.
Very tough start IMHO.

Hope I'm wrong but can't see us getting any more than 6 points between 18th Aug and 27th Oct!
August 18: Reading (A) 1-point August 25: Arsenal (H). 3-points September 1: Wigan (A). 1-point September 15: Manchester City (H). September 22: Chelsea (A) September 29: Swansea (H). 1-point October 6: Liverpool (A) October 20: Manchester United (A)
Depending on transfer activity obviously that could change things and weather the capped 1 decides we are going to put up some kind of effort away from home this year!
Suppose it will also prove him right or wrong about how much an effect the Europa league had on us last year too!
First we had the 3 year project and last year the Europa so we'll soon see what the excuse is for his negativity this year!!

You just can`t say - look at last season.
Stoke City for all the time i`ve followed them have done better against better teams and always seem to underperform against the so called weaker teams - so you can`t say yet.
A lot will happen between now and the 1st game.

Does anybody know when the televised fixtures for the opening week of the season is announced? I'd like to try and get some cheaper rail travel by booking in advance, but obviously I don't want to take the risk incase we are televised and our kick off time is changed. Tell me about it mate !! Just booked my train tickets for the Arse game and now got to hope chuffin ESPN don't pick it for a 5.30 kick off Occupational hazard with Stoke Home games as TV just loves our Cracking home support

It's a brutal start to the season.
5 giants of the world game in the first 8 fixtures
If we have our noses above water moving in to November I think we will be doing well.

Only 1 mid week away game so far which is January 1st at Man City.
Then there's only 1 week where we have 2 away games back to back. West Brom and Aston Villa 1st - 8th December which are both within easy commuting distance.
I think TP will be happy with the fixtures as they are now.

If we don't win that first game, (which I think we could), we could quite feasibly be in the bottom three by the time Sunderland arrive on 27th October.

There should not be mass panics as the new attacking style, created by our quality new signings, will see us topping the league early on and staying there. Up the Potters!

Hmm I'm not sure what to make of it....
Whilst it's good to get the big'uns out of the way quickly, I can't see us picking up many points to start the season...
Suppose there is only one way to find out.. GOOARN STOKE!

We had all this last season.
On paper, difficult away games combined with home games against the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool etc.
Look how that turned out.

Don't think it was quite this tough though WD.
3 of last years top 4, plus the Champions League winners and Liverpool away in the first 8 games is a bit ropey.

Reading fans already claiming they'll easily get three points in their first fixture with enough goals to put them top of the table.
Erm, yeah right.

Oh well. C'est la vie.
No easy games in the first couple of months - but I'm not really sure what would constitute an easy game this season?
It is definitely more than conceivable that we could be in the bottom 5 heading into November, though. That September-October run certainly is pretty f*****g nasty. Halloween comes a few weeks early.
