Eh? Milner stuck an almost identical cross onto Welbeck's head but he missed it. Given a few attempts we could all do it. World class players do things that virtually nobody can do. That wasn't an example of one. look at them both again, gerrards cross was from a far deeper position than milners and so much harder to put it right on the strikers head as they both did. the bend and whip he got on it made it look like it must have come from a position more similar to milners. there won't be a better cross all tournament.

God. Wellbeck's goal. If you think he didn't mean it then you really do know nothing about football. Pure strikers instinct, sometimes it comes off sometimes it doesn't but tonight it did. Great bit of skill. What the part where he tried to control it and he lucked it? If you think he meant it then you give average footballers far too much credit, you could tell by the whole body that he went to control. To think otherwise is laughable. Oh and another piss poor England performance where no doubt people will tell us it was good.

At the time I thought he was trying to control it and swivel for the shot and got lucky that it bounced in, but I'm still not sure after seeing it a few times. Not a great performance, but as long as we get through the group stages I don't care how it happens, I'll worry about how we play in the knock out stages.

Whatever about the performance I can't believe people are debating the Wellbeck goal.
Far from convinced by him overall but that was sheer class and top quality from Walcott too.
In that few seconds England looked like a top International side. For most of the game though we looked average.

In that few seconds England looked like a top International side. For most of the game though we looked average. Was a superb goal, and of course he meant it. In that split second, he knew the only way to put the ball in the net was to try and do something spectacular, and it worked. Like you, foxysgloves, for the short period when Walcot came on, we looked like a top side. We can be a top side, but we have to stop trying to play like bloody Italians! Possession, possession, possession is a load of bolloxs. Of course you need possession, but it's what you do with it when you've got it that matters. The PL is mooted to be the best league in the world. Why is that? It's because our players who play in the PL are used to getting at the opposition and not playing tippy tappy football at the back unless they're trying to run out a game. We should play to our strengths and not try to copy anyone else. Sweden couldn't live with us when we did that, and we could even have bagged a couple more. But we do need to improve our defending. OS.

OS. Absolutely agree OS. The key for England is do what we have always done so well but introduce more composure in critical areas. High tempo pressing game with and without the ball. Solid no-nonsense defence. The England of 1990 was close to the best we can be and if Gazza had a little more composure and maturity we would have been World Champions.

You could tell by his body? he ended up flat on his arse - what good would a controlled ball have been with him on the floor? However good anybody thinks he is; he clearly meant that.

It's like someone said above, if say Iniesta, or Benzema, or Van Persie had have done that, we'd all be creaming over it, saying what a brilliant piece of skill it was and why can't any of our players do that. Wellbeck clearly meant it, he pulled it off, fantastic piece of skill, END OF.

I must have watched a different game to a lot of the moaners on here. I thought we were great in the first half and great for the last half hour. We just had a really poor 20 minutes that very nearly cost us big time. I appreciate a game is 90 minutes long and you need to be fully concentrated for all of it but for the vast majority of the game we played very well. Sweden didn't create much and if we had taken our chances we could have scored another 2 or 3 quite easily. I usually find watching England very hard work and moan a lot myself but i was actually encouraged by last night's performance. We just need to cut out spells like early in the second half and be a bit more composed and confident when we have the opportunity to hurt the opposition.

I'm with you mate and i'm one of the people who didn't rate him and thought he shouldn't have even been in the squad so there is no bias. So far i think he's been fantastic and i just hope he keeps proving me wrong. The best thing about him is his confidence. Too many are like rabbits caught in the headlights but he's grabbing it with both hands and good luck to the lad.

I thought Welbeck was poor last night and didn't do much until he scored and of course he meant it. I do like Welbeck (always have done) and I'd have him with Rooney behind him against Ukraine. Although I thought Carroll was the better of the two, he actually linked play well with his feet which he doesn't often do.
I like a lot of these England players that others don't come to think of it, Carroll and Milner are two more. Two decent footballers who when played correctly do their job. Not worth the money they were bought for but that doesn't make them bad footballers.
