Thirty years since the Sir Galahad bombing

Thirty years ago today the Sir Galahad was bombed by Argentinian jets.

Forty eight soldiers and seamen were killed in the attack including thirty two Welsh Guards.

The bombing happened while preparing to unload soldiers at Bluff Cove in the Falklands on the 8th June 1982.

It was a bad day, and a shame so many were lost, RIP to them.


They were left on board for far too long before deciding to be put ashore, sitting ducks.

They were warned to disembark quickly because they were sitting ducks for an air attack, the warning was given by a Royal Marine Major named Ewan Southby-Tailyour. Sadly the warning was ignored by the Army officers in command,because they had no time for advice from a Royal Marine or so I have been told by someone who was there .Tragic
