Hi all!
This request is more in hope than expectation but I was wondering if there was a Stoke bar in Jakarta or Bali, or anything Stoke related in Indonesia at all. Understand, that there are quite a few Asian-based Stokies (including myself!), so it's not entirely implausible!
Going there in 5 weeks and would love a taste of home while I'm out there!
Thanks!
SWS

A few Stokies scattered around Asia but having spent a lot of time in Indonesia I suggest you try the Fez bar and hope to bump into a couple. Is a real football pub and well known. Any taxi will know it.
As for Bali then your best bet is the hole that is Kuta.......don't get me wrong isn't all bad but the Aussies really do get a bit much in the pubs. A few sports pubs there but really don't like the place.

Cheers bud! Will check out the Fez, for sure. Only in Jakarta for a few days. Heard that it's a bit of a hole! Missus wants to get to Bali asap. Heard about the Aussies. How's the level of English out there? It's pretty shit here but wondered how much miming I'll have to do there!

Always stayed in Nusa Dua in Bali which is a lot quieter but hire a jeep for little money but I suggest you check the brakes first as a couple of times mine didn't have any :-) No problem with the language normally, a nice bunch in general like Cambodians, Laos etc Jakarta is a dusty, busy place but a decent night out if you find the busier areas. Bintang beer is one of the best in the world and even nicer in the hot weather :-) Have a blast......is a great place. A friend of mine, a Stoke fan played in a pool tournament in Jakarta last month so will see if he found any new places worth checking out.

As the guys have alluded to don't know if there are any Stokie bars. I certainly didn't manage to find one but plenty of sports bars in Jakarta. Take your misses to Block M for shopping. I have been to Bali a few times (Nusa Dua) and thinking of going again before the end of June but will try Sanur. Plenty of Russians there the last time I went I feel really at home in Indo......lovely people. Enjoy it for what it is

Been to Bali loads of times, Nusa Dua, Kuta etc:
No Stokie Bars, but loads of sports bars as stated, especially in Kuta,Legian etc:
Loads of Aussie Bogans (equivalent to the British Benidorm crew) but if you stay at the 'higher class hotels' (not much more dosh) you'll only meet them on the streets ....
Bintang is great (but it really is Heineken) just produced under a different name (not a lot of people know that in the 'western' world) Bali Hai is another beer which is nearly as good ....

If you happen to be in Ubud, try the Napi Orti bar. Sound little bar, have seen 3 Stoke games there. I was known as " Mr Stoke City" ;D ;D Also, regarding beer check out Storm beer, best beer by far in Bali ( in my opinion ).

Hi,
I lived in Semarang during the 90s but spent a lot of time in Jakarta. Blok M is definitely the area to go to and there are legendary bars such as Top Gun and the Sportsman which still operate today. When I was there last year I went searching for a bar called Mongo Mas that used to be a lot of fun (and I mean a lot of fun) but it seems to have disappeared. There's a hotel I recall something like the Stamford Arms but if you ask a taxi driver he will know for sure. I would say Sportsman is probably the best - it does at least have tv screens for sport. Couldn't say if any of them have Stoke interests; they certainly didn't in the 90s!
Enjoy

How's the level of English out there? It's pretty shit here quote] Where abouts in Wales are you then? Haha. Was in Lampeter and Cardiff but now in Weihai, China. Level of English defo better here! ;D Thanks for the advice fellas. I'll be sure to check out the places mentioned. Am there for three weeks. Only plan a few days in Jakarta and then we're free to go wherever. Any recommendations for shit to see and do whilst traveling across Java, to Bali?

First thing is to think about your mode of transport. The driving is interesting, but come to think of it, you're in Weihai so you have an idea already. Think of it as Weihai driving with just a tad less regard for human life!
I wouldn't recommend Semarang (I worked there but that's all it's fit for really). Culturally, Jogjakarta is fascinating and you can go to Borobudur which is nearby. If you're interested in volcanoes, there's also Merapi in central Java; I mostly recall the smell of sulphur. You could follow it up by a visit to Surabaya and Mount Bromo - try to go up at dawn.
Generally, Javanese culture is incredibly complex and interesting. The people are charming but give little away. They say their culture is best typified by their wayang puppet shows. All the audience sees is shadows on a screen but behind, the puppets and gamalan orchestra are ordained in hugely colourful costumes and full of life. And do try some of the local food at a road side warung. Don't be put off - a simple nasi goreng by the side of the road with a cold Bintang can be some of the best food in the world, especially if you like spicy.
