As these stories break, the reality of what next season could hold grows ever more depressing.
Surely some of these players have run their course at the club?

I like Higgy a lot - but he's ran his course here.
34 in December, and wasn't getting in the Forest team towards the end of his loan spell - just as Tonge wasn't getting in the Barnsley team and Arismendi can't get on the Huddersfield bench.
I'd be amazed if he's still here come August. He's one who will move for game time. Mind you, he's probably on a lot more here than he'd get in the Championship, so we'll have to give him a fair wedge to move on, and let him move for a very nominal sum, if not a free.

We should be shifting as much of the deadwood from the wagebill as possible. I love Big Mama and I've got a lot of time for Higgy too but contracts shouldn't be offered based on sentiment or what they've achieved in the past. It should be based purely on what they can offer going forward. Surely in both these cases, the answer is (or should be) next to nothing.

You do wonder where
Higgy Tonge Collins Arismendi
will end up.
We'd hit the jackpot if we could get rid of them without heavily subsidising their wages for their last 12 months.
There may be a chance Higgy and Collins could get a gig in the Championship - but you'd think we'd have to let them go on frees as well as pay them several hundred thousand pounds to make up for the wage drop they'd experience.
As for Michael 'contract extension' Tonge and Arismendi, Christ only knows. Tonge would only interest League One clubs who could afford barely 10% of his current wage - and it seems even that level is beyond poor Diego, who we'd surely have to pay up fully to get rid of.

Frightening really to think some of our loanees haven't got what it takes to even feature in the lower leagues. Tone's hoarding of old rubbish is almost worthy of an episode on the current BBC series...

Tone's hoarding of old rubbish is almost worthy of an episode on the current BBC series... “Here we have a vintage example of a Footballer. Looking at some of the greys in the big curly afro, it appears to have some age to it. Probably dates back to the late 70s. From the look of some of these wrinkles it appears it hasn’t aged very well. In today’s market? Probably worth sod all.”

I think Danny, if back to full fitness, would be good squad cover for left back and centre half. He is unlikely to rock the boat if not getting a regular spot and is a reliable performer and good organiser of the defence. We cannot have just 11 players, lads, so we do need some who are prepared to make up the squad. I'd keep him for now and let him go come next summer.

Agree - of all the oldies he's the one I'd most like to see around if fully fit, Higgy has an excellent football brain, I wouldn't be surprised to see him as first choice LB most of the season if he's here.

The fact Pulis let him leave on loan suggests otherwise. I know he had his injury but when he was fit again Pulis didn't even deem it worthy to keep him in the squad as cover when the only option we had there was Wilson. A decision which saw Huth deployed at left back at times as a result. I don't expect Higgy to feature much if he does stay on.

He'd only be around as cover for Wilson (and, pray God, a new LB) as well as 4th/5th choice CB, and you wouldn't think that'd be what he's looking for at this stage of his career? If he's happy with that role, I'd definitely be happy with him in the 25 to cover those bases and give us some depth.

Our transfer activity thus far has not been particularly impressive. Rory, Mama and Higgy all completing new deals with the only genuine link being a 32 year old Michael Owen who I suspect the manager wont have a fucking clue what to do with. Probably stick him on the left wing, thats where most of them end up.

I don't think our transfer activity has started yet mate.
Pulis is away so we probably haven't even finalised what the budget is or who our targets are etc.
I imagine it will be same old, same old, wait and see and plenty of last minute shadow chasing.
I hope I'm wrong mind.

If you look at the quotes when he lft on loan, he doesn't seem the type who'll be happy to pick up his money for 5-6 games next season. www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Stoke-City-Fall-wasn-t-reason-Forest-says/story-15110058-detail/story.html"At the age I am now, and after a long-term injury, I've done enough watching from the sidelines," said the 33-year-old defender.
"It's hard enough when you're injured, but when you get fit and are available, it is very frustrating.
"I've had a great career up to date, but you always remember the last few years and you don't want to look back and think it just fizzled out," he explained.
"If I was happy with the situation there would be a problem. If you're a footballer, you want to be playing.
"There are some who are just happy to pick up their wages, not at this club though, and I'm certainly not one of them."

We need a couple of full backs in this summer for sure.

I hope I'm wrong mind. Yeh fair enough. Yeh I must say i'm expecting the same. Wait till August 31st, get in a few last minute deals, 2 of which will be unfit and wont fit the system. The other one will be a massive target man who is hopeless in front of goal ;D ;D Lets hope we are both wrong ! I'd get in, Olsson, Insua, Jarvis, Yakubu and a decent right back. Possibly a quick striker too. Problem is this year we HAVE to start early because we have so many areas that need covering.
