This is my first thread. My daughter has e mailed me for some information. She has recently been to Norway and was suprised to learn how popular Stoke were over there, and she was wondering why are stoke so popular over there, and there is even a Norwegian version of loud and proud. Does anyone know why this came about.

Well this is my first post on this forum, so please be nice to me. I'm from Norway, and the reason why i'm a Stoke suporter is beacause of my father wich used to follow Stoke back in the 70's. (Used to have them televised in what was called tippekampen)
I remember he walked towards me in some Stoke gear (guess it was from 71-74) and said this used to be me. He used to play in his gear when he was a young one!
And from that, day 10 years or so ago, i've been a Stokie. Once a potter, always a potter!

It started in the 70ies when they started showing live matches from England on Norwegian television. Many games were shown with Stoke playing, and it it also happened when Stoke had some brilliant players in the team. The kids in Norway grew up seeing Greenhoff, Hudson, Smith etc playing, and also witnessed some classic matches as well.
The kids back then are now adults with kids, and we now pass the legacy on to the next generation.

Isn't it obvious? Frode Kippe! ;D Actually he`s still playing at the top level in the norwegian league. Still decent at set-pieces, but that`s about it. He plays with a lot of commitment though, even i matches for charity ;D: www.vg.no/rampelys/artikkel.php?artid=10017462About norwegians supporting Stoke: In the seventies norwegian television( NRK ) broadcasted one match from England every saturday. Stoke( and other clubs from the Midlands ) was shown pretty often and that was the beginning for many of the norwegian supporters. It`s about 560 members of the norwegian supporters club today and 50 norwegians watched the game against Bolton at the Brit last sunday. Last summer Terry Conroy and his wife made us a visit in Oslo, so a lot is going on over here to keep the support and stay in touch with people in and around the club and city. www.stoke.no/

In a world of Man Utd and Liverpool fans you guys are an absolute credit to this club and I only hope that SCFC treat you well when you do make your visits. The loyalty shown by our Scandinavian supporters even through the dark years is worthy of appreciation.

Went to Tromso in Norway last year and the bloke who's holiday shack we were staying in was a massive Stokie - He didn't really speak much English though. Norway is amazing too.

I am off to norway next weekend to watch england, any oslo based stokies recommend any bars??? The most popular (and expensive) bars are in Karl Johan (the main street) and Aker Brygge (at the Oslo fjord). If you go to the Frogner or Grunerløkka-areas you'll get away from the main tourist-areas and will find lots of great bars, lots of people and nice places to eat as well. Enjoy your visit!

I am off to norway next weekend to watch england, any oslo based stokies recommend any bars??? It`s a couple of pubs just outside the stadium too. Usually very crowded before the matches. I would recommend the Grünerløkka area too. Lots of small and nice places with good food and drinks. It`s a pub in the city centre where Oslo based Stoke supporters use to meet. The owner is a Stoke-fan too: tordenskiold.no/?page_id=11From city centre to the stadium( Ullevaal ) it`s about 10-12 mins. with the subway. If you would like to walk it will take you about 40-45 mins. It`s a pretty good forecast for the next week in Oslo( 20-24 celsius and sunny ), so probably it will be a lot of people at the bars close to the harbour. Enjoy your stay!
