The best Everton player by a mile was Pienaar.
Superb and found the ball at virtually every opportunity.

He would be Tone's ideal midfielder. Big, strong, good on the ball, usefull in both boxes.

Now talking of class then look no further than the composure of jeromes quick feet for a great finish.

Osman, couldve banged 2-3 in tonight, thought he was in the right position almost every time. Everton looked like a team that has played together for years, we looked like players pulled out of a raffle 10 mins before KO

He was slow as fuck tonight, but it seemed like every defence centred around him, and he was at the beginning of every attack.
I would love him, but surely a 'big' team will come in for him eventually.

Thought he was good last night (as he has been all season). He's a million miles above anything we have in that position. Also agree that Distin is a class defender.

Never truly had control of the ball at any point but to his credit kept barrelling his way toward goal before hitting his shot in to the ground and getting a nice deflection

Understandable in some respects as he feels he needs to prove himself to the manager. It's like Tuncay all over again

Fellaini really is a quality player, was so composed tonight and the ball seemed to be attracted to him. Almost every Everton move came through him. How he escaped a booking I'll never know though.
Interesting that when one of our players comes on and in less than 2 minutes shows determination and initiative and scores a goal, some fool has to pick fault.

Wasn't overly impressed with him. Jelavic was a class act - everything they sent up to him he held it up or flicked it on perfectly.

He scored a scrappy goal then pretty much switched off for the night. I don't think he's had a fair crack at all but their are definite parallels with the Tuncay situation

A player either side of jerome virtually on his shoulder and you say he never had control of the ball. Somekind of luck that was to keep both hold of the ball and to keep two top players away from it. I wish i could lose control of the ball like that. As for the finish itself it was much like the goal against Blackburn in the sense that the ball struck the turf before going in.

Amazing that the lad gets us immediately back in the game and his goal is deemed as lucky. He hassled the defenders and got his shot away........well done to him. I'm sure if Fuller had scored that some would be looking at it in a different way. Everton's goal on the other hand was a real thing of beauty

Correct.
Top goal and it wasn't as if he was away with acres of space and time.
Great run and to protect the ball from a player on either shoulder was a joy to see.

The ball hits his shin, hits the defenders shin, bounces back into his path. Scuffs the shot it hits the defender to take it over the keeper. All the commentators I've seen cover it claim he got a few lucky bounces. Fair play and great credit to him for making the run and keeping going but you can't claim that the ball was ever truly under his spell at any point during that run.

But I don't see how anyone can claim he had mastery of the ball. I'd say the same had it been Ric or anyone else

Ive seen it mate and same as i say it was a joy to watch protecting and keeping that ball when a player was on either shoulding breathing down his neck.

I dont know youd expect even from the worlds very best given the situation he was in. He had presense of movement and mind to keep moving that ball forwards amongst all those legs and feet. He was even in between both players that were already breathing down his neck when upson played it through so to just keep it let alone run forward 50 or 60 yards and then score was really something else.

I'm not criticising him. I'm just saying I can't see how anyone can claim he had control of the ball. Pace & power yes, bundles of it but it wasn't down to quick feet and close control that's all

Think CJ did great for the goal. His persistence and pace was a refreshing improvement on the previous hour of drab fare. No doubting that luck favoured him with the run of the ball and the deflection but he'd earned that luck. Anyway, good player that Fellaini eh?

Given the situation he was in then not even the worlds best would have been able keep that ball under COMPLETE control because it just wasn't possible, but for him to keep moving forward and keeping focused was all he could do in that situation and with his strength and pace he did it brilliantly so how someone could come across that he could have done better does a dis-service to him really.
