I hate people who moan about the national being cruel etc. or what not. Go and watch some tiddlywinks.
Superb race today. Massive shame about the two horses, but they died doing what they love (they wouldn't run or jump otherwise you see). Roll on next year with higher fences and a proper brook back at Becher's and Valetines ideally imo.

I havnt heard anyone moaning, just showing a bit of sympathy for animals in obvious pain and distress. They died doing something they love?? What difference does that make?? So next time you go and watch Stoke, you fall down the steps and break your neck your family will feel OK about it because you are doing something you love?? Flawed.

There has already been plenty of moaning. RSPCA guy was on Racing UK under an hour after the end of the race for one, calls onto radio shows, Mr Sausage ;D
A big difference between a human being and a horse don't you think? What difference does it make? It's better than the horse being worked to death hauling crap in a god forsaken Eastern European country etc.
As i said, it's a massive shame, but it happens.

True, a big difference between a horse and a human. In many cases I would probably prefer a horse.

It's not going to make money but cost money instead and that's all these fuckers care about. a quick google search is all thats needed to find out why a horse has to be put down after suffering a broken leg. its all to do with the not being able to keep a horse still while it recovers like a human. we break our legs, we sit on our arses for 6 weeks with our leg on the coffee table watching tele. a horse, constantly wants to be moving and standing.....which with a broken leg is near impossible, therefore the leg never heals. they also contract illnesses if they dont exercise properly, so although it seems cruel to put the horse down when it breaks a leg, it is in fact the most humane thing to do. sad....but its a fact Sorry, don't believe that, for me, its all to do with money, If a horse broke its leg, then shoot the horse with a dart , knocking it out and then fix it. All this nonsense, saying the horse died doing what it loved is rubbish also, what horse wants a human being on its back, whipping it? and then when it breaks a leg, (meaning its not going to earn the stable, owner, rider etc any money) they shoot it. Its not right, not right at all

Its not right, not right at all I've always wondered why they couldn't fix them. But if they could, Synchronised's owner would be one who would have them fixed everytime. If an animal weighing as much as a horse doesn't want a human on it's back. It'll get the human off. As shown by Synchronised today, just a jink can remove the Champion Jockey easily enough

They won't ban the national or jump racing. It's just an unfortunate hazard of the sport just as they won't ban other sports which result in death. Football boxing rugby etc
Just because it's the national everyone has to get self righteous. They will go back to eating beef and moaning about something else tomorrow.

I think it says alot when you see loose horses still jumping fences. They're thoroughbred horses, it's what they love to do.
As LGH says, their owners will be in bits. There was a cracking piece on the owners of 'According To Pete' and he has been with them the best part of the horses life. All the owner wanted was to get round safely. The trainers, jockeys, stableboys/girls work with the horse everyday, so I think to say it's all about money is wide of the mark mate.

You can't just put a horse's leg in a cast and tell it to sit on the sofa with it's foot up for weeks. I don't think technology has invented horse crutches yet either.
