Pennant different class to Matty these days. It's hard to watch a player who was so good play so disastrously bad week in week out. Sooner we get a new left winger in the better. Pennant showed the manager again why he should be playing. Just got back from the game and pleased with the result. Totally transformed when Crouchy and JP came on. Jones is an unbelievably bad footballer and is quickly starting to make Mama look like Pele, problem is the former cost us 8 million quid. Walters romance with TP had to stop the guy can't buy a goal. Huth formidable, what an important player he is to us.Palacios looked good il be disappointed if he doesn't start the next few games.

Don't think he was that good today. Completely wasted one of the best chances of the game as well by playing an easy ball far too deep when completely unmarked in the box..

Etherington has been run into the ground this season, Pulis has only played Pennant when he has had to. It would be nice to have a player to come in and give matty a rest, some young and up and coming player from he academy, someone like Marshall, oh wait sorry we don't do kiddies

Heather trott could show Matty up right now!! The bloke is atrocious, last year he was a joy to watch, this year he as been getting gradually worse every week and now it's at the point I'm really dreading see his name on the team sheet, he's been flogged to death and it's painful to see the lad struggle how he is

Was just thinking the same - why is it we can't risk Pennant but we keep risking Ethers. Dead ball delivery apart he's been poor for ages and now understandably short of confidence. 2 weeks off now though, wonder if the squad will go away? Kiev, Istanbul, Tel Aviv maybe?

Give the man a break, always marked off the pitch and opens up the middle of the pitch for Wilson to work. Delap was outstanding as replacement. ;-/

I think Pennant if definatley the more consistence of the to but when they're both on top form Etherington for me is still the better but I agree this season Pennant has been shitting all over Etherington

Good substitutions for a change

I think we need to play with both wingers on...Ethers seems to have a loss of confidence, he just doesn't seem able to get past players these days...Pennant superb ... Maybe the team shrink should be called in to help Ethers to get some belief back in his ability..

To be honest it's ridiculous to see JP used so sparingly while we keep flogging Walters.

I think last season burnt Etherington out, with his constant niggling injuries, the big injury at Wolves and then him being rushed back for the Cup Final.
It's sad, but he looks a player on his last legs.

Villa were there for the taking tonight, I agree Crouchie and JP provided a greater threat when they came on.

Must admit that Ethers has seemed to leave Wilson without an option a lot this season, never making a pass/ball thru available. Similarly tho, Wilson never goes on the over run either, only ever being there for a pass back. JP always seems to work better with Wilko & Shotton.

It is staggering really. Not only has he been better in general play but as the last 3 days have showed us we have missed his set pieces just as much.
We need 2 Wingers in the summer really (3 if pennant is off)

it all comes down to hit man management really. Ethers has been off sorts for a while now and because we have absolutely no one to challenge him, he has to keep playing. Pennant has been in and out for one reason or another, but has shown in the last few games even if he is not playing that well he can still put almost unplayable balls in the box. Ethers needs a rest may as well put jerome out wide for the rest of the season.

Thats why jp has to start every game, matty has never recovered from that injury before the cup final, he should be rested now to get completely fit for next season

Pennant is class, him and Crouch changed the game today Good substitutions for a change Totally agree. It's just such a pity that 2 very accurate corners from Pennant, in our last games, the ball has curled out of play as it's taken from the right? A bit more practice or another corner taker on this side? A short corner pass to Pennant to cross it from just on the pitch? Ler's hope they both start v Newcastle

3 week break now for Ethers until we play Arsenal at home, forget him v Newcastle because Pulis will have already wrote it off because how well they have done blah blah!!! But give him a chance to recharge. I would give him a week in the sun somewhere like Malaga at one of those training resorts and Walters.
Not to play Pennant as often as Ethers over the season has been pathetic management because who wants a winger in the team creating goals!!?? Answer T.Pulis!

Matt's suffered from not having an overlapping fullback to support him. Time and again he's given the ball and had to face opposition doubling up on him.
It's no secret that Marc Wilson's not a left back, never mind an overlapping left back, but he's done okay defensively.
It's an area Pulis is aware needs addressing - just like central midfield.

Matty works much harder than JP does. The really disappointing thing is that it seems that we can only ever have one good cross per game and lately it's not been from Matty.

Ethers needs a rest. Hasn't been the same since that injury. Give him the rest of the season off.

JP is probably the best player at the club bar Crouch and maybe Huth. Technically he is miles above anything else we have.
Really hope he stays over summer, still has a lot to offer.

Ethers has not been right since the Injury before the Cup Final,he was rushed back too soon because of that final, and he plus the club have suffered because of it.

Both our wingers suffer from the lack of an attacking threat from centre midfield which allows the opposition to concentrate on battering Matty game after game then doubling up on JP leaving us with punts forward and playing for throw ins and corners hence the lack of chances from open play. Matty has probably never been anywhere near 100% fit all season due to our dependence on him and the kickings he gets. JP's game doesn't rely on speed to the extent that Matty does and seems a little smarter at avoiding the kickers and of course he hasn't played as many games.
