in re: harrysburrow He due in Liverpool on Sep 23rd this year, be interesting to see if he cancels as he's had plenty of death threats. I don't care much for Alan Davies or his opinions, and certainly not how he forces them across to people. However, whether he is right or not is neither here nor there for me. I think that Liverpool could and should have played this game on this date because of so many different and poignant reasons. It's a Cup Semi final It's against their rivals. It's being played in an all seater stadium. What better way to show the unfortunate families that they are forever in their and our hearts than to play a game against their city rivals in the exact type of game that saw this disaster come about, and for the whole city (and country) to unite together in a showpiece game at the new Wembley - a venue that is befitting a game of that type of magnitude. A celebration of the lives of the people that suffered is the wrong statement but hopefully you know what I mean and the notion behind the post. Spot on, I agree 100%. For me it was the perfect occasion to play a game on the anniversary. What better way than to get together as a city on such an occasion and remember those 96 who passed by doing what they wanted to do on that ill-fated day...just watch their team play. I know it's not that simple, but do the families of those who lost loved ones also believe Liverpool should not play on that day? It is now 23 years ago, would it have been that hard to play the game on that day? I can see how it would dishonor those they lost, for most the days after would have been the worst time as reality of what happened sank in.

His point of view can be debated but isn't he just trying to get a cheap laugh out of a very serious situation?
He's clearly cracked a few jokes in there and hoped to get a few laughs from having a rant.
If he really wanted to discuss this he could've done it either a) in a more serious manner or b) on a more serious platform.
But he chose to do it in an over-the-top, hysterical manner in an aim to be funny.
In short, I think there is an argument that they should play on this day but that needs some serious discussion with the people who are/were involved.
And that isn't some jumped-up, gobshite Arsenal fan.

All Davies was saying was what a lot of other people think - so fair play to him
No-one in their right mind would look to minimise the horror or the tragedy of Hillsborough but their does come a time to move on.
I see no reason on earth why Liverpool can dictate for ever and a day that there is a date in the calendar that they will never play on.
What was it Dalglish said? "It's not even worth a line in the paper that we might play - because we won't".
And seemingly everyone else has just got to fall into line
By all means ask for a minute's silence, wear a commerative shirt, give your gate receipts to charity, show the names of the poor people who died on your scarves - but don't dicatate to the rest world what they can and can't do on a particular day because of your own grief from almost than a quarter of a century ago.
I'm not entitled to do that at a personal level anymore than a football club at a corporate level.

Story doesn't sound half as bad on the BBC.
Fact is, he's a dick, but he's also right.
