get yourself down bourne sports and put yourself in their hands, the running section [upstairs] is well stocked and staffed by people who knew what they were talking about, i usually went for last year models [trainers] and they would be on sale for about £40 thats better than paying £80 just because the trainer has a new stripe on it!!!! best bit of advice is too join your local running club you will get a warm welcome and tons of valuable advice from people who have been there and done it

Sign up for a charity 5k for your first one to set yourself a target. I started from nothing (overweight ex-smoker) and did 3 miles for sport relief 2 years ago as my first one. That target of having something in the diary kept me going when I couldn't be arsed to gout training - along with not letting my sponsors down. That will really give you a taste for it - I've since done a few more 5k's, three 10k's and did the mini triathlon at trentham gardens last summer (swim in the lake, 20k cycle, 2.5k run). The Donna Louise 10k in May will be too much too soon but I enjoyed that (again at Trentham) last year. I'm still an overweight ex-smoker but I may just be a little bit fitter than I was!
