Wonder if those perimeter fences high enough to allow for hoofball practice?

If your are thinking long term (e.g. 5, more likely 10 years), then this is the BEST £6M investment the club will ever make. If it generates one or two decent players in that time then its more or less paid for itself. Would far rather see the club spend £6M on this than an unproven player.

Great news and when you see the facilities that clubs like Liverpool, Everton or Man U have got then this (facility wise) brings us up to their standard.
Thekey now is to get the youth set up working for the future.

Wonder exactly where this £6m is being spent, in addition to the approx. £6m that we've already spent? Presumably the big building is a dome replacement?

Its definitely a possitive move for the club, especially as it could stop other top clubs poaching our players. For this to succeed though, there will also need to be the addition of top youth coaches (not TP's mates, like pennock) and for these players to have a realistic chance of making it into the first team. Otherwise whats the point?
Im all for this, i just dont want to see any progress wasted by a manager who's not convinced by this method! If were going to succeed with it, its got to be run & utilised properly!

All about the youth coaching staff we can bring in now...weren't we linked with the Barcelona youth coach?!

A "full size indoor pitch" - I wonder how many clubs have one? Can't be that many in the country I would think?
Sir Peter is certainly going to leave a heluva legacy when he shuffles off this mortal coil.

Why will young players sign for stoke when they dont even get a shot at first team? Might aswell put the 6 million towards a player as we know pulis wont play young players, and they will go elsewhere. We also need a proper youth coaching set up (not yes men) yet another thing which will not happen with pulis. The other problem is our youth teams play decent football so therefore whenever they move into the first team squad, the football is totally alien to them. Ajax for example, all there youth teams from u10s play the exact formation and tactics as the first team so its easier for them to make a impact in the first team. This will only be a good thing if pulis changes his stubbon ways (which we know wont happen) or if theres a change at the top.

There's quite a lot of really critical stuff out there about this new Elite Performance Plan thing. It seems that if you are a Category One Academy, which it seems we'll be, it's basically a licence to poach youngsters from non-Category One clubs for absolute peanuts, so all the talented youngsters are at the big clubs. If we were on the other side of it, we'd be fuming. www.skysports.com/tv_show/story/0,20144,20438_7285007_20438,00.html

Oh, I wasn't thinking we'd be alone but, if we were one of, maybe ten or so clubs with a full size indoor pitch that would be a useful selling point. As to those who (inevitably) say the Pulis factor will deter youngsters from joining our academy, remember this is a long term project. Chances are that TP will have moved on long before the younger entrants to the new, upgraded, academy graduate.

Indeed it would Lakeland, Villa is another I think, google their training ground actually, it looks bloody awesome!

But we can only play under the rules as they are, and I think Coates is correct to try to "hit the ground" running as the new system comes into play. Better that than get left behind.

very good news and we can but hope it provides some very good talent to the first team and squad.
maybe this is why we haven't heard anything about filling the corners in this close season, maybe next time

I am a big TP fan but I do see where many are coming from i.e. TP not likely to play the kiddies. HOWEVER I can't say that in truth TP is going to be here in 5-7 years.
There will be a point where TP has done he can or wants to do and maybe the wales job could come along. I hope it doesn't but every manager leaves in the end.
When it comes to the point of this having some benefit he could be long gone.

Absolutely brilliant news.
Regardless of the "TP won't play them" responses, the club is taking action to keep our priorities in check. Without this, Manchester United or City could easily steal our bright young stars, or any other club within 90 minutes of the player. We are better being in this then not in this.
Fuck filling in the corners. They can wait.
