I got caught on camera on the A34 speeding at Cross Heath on the day of the Norwich game.
Looks like these days you can avoid the 3 points and fine by instead booking on a 4 hour Speed Awareness Course that costs more than the fine!
The upside seems to be that you don't have to report anything to your insurance company so you could get some of the extra dosh back that way.
Anyone done one of these things and have any thoughts?
I'll probably bump in to Tony Pulis on the day ;D

yeah, went onto one at Stafford, in the hospital grounds somewhere the two guys running it were dead enthusiastic and made it as interesting as possible. picked up a few pointers and a bit of info to look out for in future, and you forget about over the years Went there thinking it would be full of boy racer types, but I think there was only one there under 25, the rest were all late forties/fifties and it was full, about 35 - 40 there. And they did make it last the full 4 hours !!

I never go out in the car and don't see an incident caused by a speed camera.

Depends on how much over the speed limit you were and I think they offer these courses randomly so not all offenders get the chance. The course costs as much as the fine would have been and you dunner get the points etc.

They are quite interesting and if its like the one I attended a couple of years ago the bloke will insert a bit of humour so its not too formal. A talk through the dangers of speeding (surprise surprise!) and stats like the chances of a child surviving if being hit at 30mph compared to 40mph , a bit of a written test and watch a video of someone driving around Crewe with tester questions afterwards! Have you got to go to Longton?

I did one recently at Westport Lake Visitors Centre. I think the fee was £75. The course was OKish and I suppose it was informative enough. I would estimate there were 30-40 people there. Heres a few tips of go to westport so you can be top of the class: 1) They show you an image of some items sitting on a desk for about 5 seconds and you have to say how many pens there are. Just look in the top left of the picture and the number of pens is written there. 2) If there are no speed signs you can calulate the speed limit by if if there are any street lamps . If there are street lamps then its deemed residential so 30mph applies. 3) Duel carriageway limit is 70mph. I thought it was 60.

And I'm sure it doesn't really matter if he gets no 1. wrong! ;D
