If you the read the thread it's two weeks old Whitehead has been outstanding for weeks. It's not him that's the problem in midfield. You need someone to do all the dirty work in there, he is perfect at it. We need someone better next to him needs to do the basics better mate ie retaining possession. He's not bad at what he does but I like to think we will have moved on next season. Thought he did that excellently today Can only think of one bad pass and he was the one constantly bringing the wingers into play

He certainly wouldn't have stood out in the wolves midfield which says a lot.

Thought he did that excellently today Can only think of one bad pass and he was the one constantly bringing the wingers into play I can think of a few occasions. I don't count passing backwards as retaining possession, because we all know what happens when our defenders get the ball.

He was excellent today and has been playing well for a good few games now.
I can't comment on Wigan coz I wasn't there but he had a very good game today did Deano. Good job really because Whelan had a stinker.

I'm a big fan of Deano, top class again today, also got to admit i'm not a massive fan of Whelan but he was very good today as well. Totally agree with you on both points ...

Deano's commitment and work rate was amazing today....even took some nasty knocks and still got up and battled through......player of 2012 for me, well done Deano lad.

Whitehead has been better of late ,but surely running around alot doesnt make him the midfield general we require ,think back to Howard Kendall he trapped and passed the ball with iether foot put tackles in and dictated play ,midfielders are suppose to link up play ,get box to box ,score or at least have efforts on goal and be able to PASS the ball something he struggles at ,my preference would be to try him at right back, going and support Jermaine on the wing and blocking crosses into the box something our fullbacks are incapable of doing .Deano for fullback .

Thought again yesterday he was the best of a bad bunch. Great energy and efforts and did well keep going after a number of late challenges on him. Whelan was possibly the worst on show

We need our midfield to contribute 10-15 goals a season between them or else we're always going to be lowest scores in the PL every year there are times when we look awful and but for set pieces we'd be adrift. that said how many teams would swap places with us. hopefully things will change next season when Palacios is fit and we can freshen things up.

Seems a bit harsh to single anyone out after today but I'm going to point out Dean Whitehead who was absoutely outstanding. Great energy, got stuck in and did all the dirty work excellently. Interesting - I thought he was crap. Had many opportunities to go forward into space and chickened out by passing backward or side ways. He's become the next Rory without a throw, sitting back in the middle of the defence and handing over the centre of midfield. Oh and wtf was Delapidated doing on the pitch again

Deano was excellent , but Whelan needs a rest his passing gets us into trouble I'd give a youngster a run out.

Oh and wtf was Delapidated doing on the pitch again Agree with this, I thought our midfield was the weakest part of our game again. Whitehead is just scared of the ball, he never looks for any options ahead of him. He takes the soft option everytime by knocking back to the defenders to lump it up, so we always go from decent possession to 50/50 hoofball. But thats the way he likes it, he prefers it when we haven't got the ball, cause thats when it looks like he's actually doing something.

Whitehead was outstanding yesterday and far from looking frightened on the ball actually took it and advanced on the Wolves defence several times Yesterday. I've been frustrated by him in the past but, not yesterday.

I was in the Waddo yesterday and there were a good few Dingles in there.
Deano was being interviewed as they do for the MoM. He said something like, great to get the three points and "hopefully that sends Wolves down". Classic.
He obviously doesn't like Wolves, most players would have more diplomatic, especially as he wasn't asked about Wolves.
I thought Crouch was our MoM yesterday, Deano did play well and has been in triffic form for some time now.
